Benchmark DAC1 users thread

Where do I go next to squeeze the most quality out? Apologies this has been done to death but apple sites are full of "180kbps is all you need" tosh and this is my first foray into computer audio.

Dont laugh, I never thought Id bloody do it.

I use FLAC files generated out of EAC and these sound identical to WAV files but are half the size. Anything lower than the actual bit rate of CD audio is going to be missing some of the data needed to make the music sound like the CD, however 256kbps is more than enough for an iPod and ear buds in my experience. Sticking the same through 3 way active speakers sounds noticeably worse than CD.

You might want to start a new thread to get the best answers by the way as this one goes back five or more years IIRC
