Not really directly comparable though as it's not solely the 80s, but an interesting list nonetheless. Where's Violator though?

I can't say I even consciously think of "black music" and "white music"... music's music and either it's good or it's not.

I love reggae and dub - mainly black

love Jazz - many of the greats were black

love Soul - but only up until maybe the mid 70's when it went crap and started to turn into "R&B" - mainly black

I can't stand "R&B" - mainly black

Jungle, drum and bass, grime etc crap - mainly black

Some really top tunage there! Obvs prefab Sprouts magnum opus "Jordan the Comeback" should be at number 1 though. I'd have it somewhere in my top 10 of best albums ever, across all genres, in the history of music so I may be biased:)
I don't seem to see anything by The Fall:D Gallic good taste I guess:D

What, nothing by Johnny Hallyday??

I like that list (only looked at the top 20). Credible choices and a few I'd forgotten. I take issue with the failure to mention Michael Jackson's paedophilia, however. Not a good look brushing that under the carpet.

I think the list pre dates that coming to light.

I always find Pitchfork’s lists a bit too knowing but this is closer to my recollection than the bbc list

Lots of Hip Hop, but not The Ultramagnetic MCs.

Well, they got The Feelies in there. Crazy Rhythms and the Good Earth are better and would be in my top albums of the 80's, but I can understand why they might not be on everyone's radar.

I like that list (only looked at the top 20). Credible choices and a few I'd forgotten. I take issue with the failure to mention Michael Jackson's paedophilia, however. Not a good look brushing that under the carpet.

One could also mention Morrissey's chauvinism...

From my perspective I’m not brushing it under the carpet, but I’m also not buying the dreadful recent two-part hatchet-job documentary from the two accusers who had previously had the hugely revised and altered ‘evidence’ they presented in the film fail entirely under court scrutiny. The film used every cheap editorial and emotional trick in the book to portray their story without even the slightest scrutiny or counter-argument. I’m under little doubt that Jackson was a broken and mentally ill individual, and that he had highly unwise/unhealthy relationships with children, but the case he was a paedophile in the conventional (Jimmy Saville, Gary Glitter, Fred The Weatherman, Bill Wyman etc) manner is far from proven IMHO. I’m more of the viewpoint that he needed proper mental healthcare/help as he had clearly been damaged since a child.
