Audacity - ReplayGain plugin

Brian

Eating fat, staying slim
I want to adjust the volume level of audio tracks to roughly similar for creating compilations from different CDs. I'm using the Replay Gain plugin to do this in batches of 30 files.

All of the exported files in a batch end up the same length as the longest audio file in the batch, silence is inserted at the end of each shorter track to make up the difference, which is sometimes a number of minutes long. For example, in the (luckily) first batch of 30 the longest audio track is 7m 20secs long, all exported files end up 7m 20secs long with silence inserted at the end of the shorter tracks. I know I can use the Truncate Silence... effect to remove this, and I'll use that anyway to get the start/end silence to .5sec for each track, but the behaviour of the Replay Gain effect seems a bit odd.

Is anybody else using the Replay Gain effect in batches seeing the same result of silence inserted at the end of tracks?

Thanks
