Hi-Fi Choice reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors -

http://atcloudspeakers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/HFC_413_Exotica_ATC_Reprint-LOW.pdf

"Active duty - ATC’s SCM19 standmount now has a fully active big brother and it’s a very serious piece of kit says David Vivian."

"If ATC has a secret weapon, it’s probably the way its drive units are engineered. The coils are wound edgewise from specially milled copper wire, providing a higher density of conductor than the norm. Along with new adhesive technology and ultra-fine coil-gap clearances, it allows extremely high power handling and excellent reliability."

"The leap in dynamic headroom power has a remarkably profound effect."

"Even if you’re familiar with the dynamic largess and gloriously un-hyped presentation of the standmount passive SCM19, this active tower moves the game on in unmistakable ways. In raw terms it goes louder with less distortion while exhibiting tighter control, wider and more finely graded dynamic contrasts, a deeper, harder-hitting bass and greater rhythmic impetus and drive. Yep, rather than peering through the window, we’re standing in the open doorway of the studio, here."

"Clearly shot through with the solid engineering and acoustic expertise loved by fans of ATC around the world, the SCM19A is an important and effective addition to the company’s extensive domestic line up. Used in anger with high octane rock it will make most similarly sized passive floorstanders sound somewhat flat and loose. But it does the delicate stuff with great care and finesse as well. A better advert for properly implemented active design at a relatively sane price I’ve yet to hear.”

David Vivian, Hi-Fi Choice August 2016.

The Ear reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

"I don’t get the impression that ATC goes in for flattery in sound, it goes against the company’s pro audio ethos, their speakers are ultimately made for people who want to hear the good and the bad in a recording so that they can do something about it one way or the other."

"And the active drive is a fundamental part of this speaker’s appeal, it confers and ease of power that is very hard to achieve with passive speakers. By taking the crossover out from between amplifier and drive unit you instantly make the amplifier’s life easier, giving it a far better chance of controlling the voice coil and thus reducing distortion. An advantage that is more obvious at higher levels where control becomes more of an issue in conventional systems. The SCM19A therefore sounds like it has huge headroom, that no dynamic peaks will be restricted and that you can play at high volumes without the distortion that makes the experience uncomfortable. But it’s not all about power, it’s also about articulation, this speaker can reveal an awful lot of detail even at sensible levels, and for the most part that is what I appreciate and to which these comments refer."

"I could go on but hopefully the crux has been communicated, this ATC like its range mates is not designed to elaborate on the signal, it exists to let you hear it like it is. In this respect it sounds more like a studio monitor than your average domestic loudspeaker and what this does is focus on the playing, singing and performance rather than the sound. So ATCs are speakers for music junkies, especially those who like their music at the same sort of sound pressure levels enjoyed by many musicians. They are a blank canvas at the mercy of the signal, get that right and you have an unusually good loudspeaker, one that will keep you enthralled to the end of every album."

The Absolute Sound reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

"Per ATC tradition, the mid/woofer features a short coil in a long gap, a massive ceramic magnet, and a long-throw suspension for linearity at extreme dynamic levels. The ultra-rigid basket construction appears sturdy enough to support an eighteen-wheeler. Per ATC practice these drivers have been designed and manufactured in-house. They are not off-the-shelf items from a third party."

"Far and away its biggest asset (and this was also true of the SCM19) remains its fast, dynamic, and transparent midrange—one that anchors images, from vocals to violins, and establishes their palpable presence in the room.

"Particular credit goes to the newly designed tweeter, which integrates perfectly with the midrange and bass rather than sounding like a separate sound source. The result is a near-ideal point-source coherence matched by transducers that seemingly speak with one harmonious voice. This trait can be heard with every piano note, or the draw of a violin bow across an E string."

"Image placement is fastidious; at times almost startling in the way musicians inhabit their own space with authority, clarity, and specificity. In the same way an Olympic gymnast “sticks the landing,” there is a grounding to the orchestral soundstage that once heard is difficult to forget."

" Whether passive or actively powered, does it do the job of reproducing a musical performance in a way that approaches the authenticity of the live event? Well, some may accuse me of heresy, but I won’t be passive in my appraisal of the SCM19A. There is no two-way loudspeaker that I would recommend more highly."

“…also takes a company with diverse engineering expertise to cover electronics, mechanics, electro-mechanics, and other disciplines and this is rare. ATC clearly has the engineering talent required as they have been in business over 40 years and producing active speakers for many of them. The SCM19ATs are a wonderful advancement in the state of the art of active loudspeakers. You could easily spend three times as much on comparable separate components and not do as well. I strongly encourage you to seek out the ATCs and give them a listen.”

The Speaker Shack reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

"When I was asked if I would like to review the new ATC SCM19A speakers I jumped at the chance with a resounding YES. It had been a while since I last heard the well coveted SCM19 speakers, but this time it is in the guise as the SCM19AT with ‘AT’ standing for the Active Tower versions of this popular speaker."

"ATC have a long history in building high quality speakers with many of their components being made in house. This gives them total control over what is produced but it also means that they have the knowledge of not just designing good speakers but building them too. With many of their speaker’s studio grade and their active designs are some of the best examples of how to do active. With matching all the components together, meaning drive units and active crossovers you can be sure that the speaker has plenty of power and specifically to each drive unit as is the case with the SCM19AT which has a total of 182 watts per speaker at its disposal."

"The SCM19AT speakers inherit similar qualities to its younger sibling the passive version which is great performance but this is enhanced by the synergy of ATC’s matching amplifier technology...."

"....I seriously recommend checking it out as it is a brilliant showcase for any system and speakers for that matter, this album should come with a warning such is its lunacy and will make you want to turn the volume up to 11. But the real test is can your speakers handle this and the ATC SCM19AT speakers handled it and went above and beyond expectations...."

"This is a speaker which is well proportioned in size and looks great too with a strong build quality and anyone looking for great performance and has around £5000 to spend need to give these speakers serious consideration."

Hi-Fi Pig reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

"When playing the first track by CeCe Winans I was treated to a wide soundstage which instantly brought back fond memories of the imaging and timing of the stand-mount 19s. Through the 19As Cece’s vocal conveyed more of the emotional essence of her performance, drawing me closer to it. The combination of ATC’s amplifier and speaker technology is simply a match made in heaven, instantly producing better depth and acoustics than I remember being able to achieve through the passive crossovers of the standard 19s."

"I’m a huge fan of a systems ability of pull off transparency, accuracy and imaging combined to recreate the performance and not just the music. The 19As dishes out this reward in spades."

"I am accustomed to ATC’s abilities, but listening to the transformation of a speaker from a passive stand-mount design to an active version has been truly informative. Although ATC has removed the choice of amplifier and stand away from the listener in the 19As, they have also solved the problem of finding the ideal combination of driver/amp/stand with an outcome that always delivers music which is exciting and engaging."

"ATC has a range of speakers that in my experience steps-up in audio scale but retains its revealing character. In short, and as demonstrated by the 19AT, it’s simply honest and insightful."

ATC Loudspeaker Technology’s SCM19 Active Tower SL speaker system will deliver the company’s reference-quality audio from an elegantly curved floor-standing design, just 370mm wide and under a metre in height. Identical acoustically to ATC’s award-winning passive SCM19SL 2-way system but utilising the 19 litre volume in a slim tower format, the SCM19AT SL combines high aesthetic appeal with the widely acknowledged performance benefits of ATC active design to create a compelling speaker proposition for music lovers.

The SCM19AT SL’s braced, sealed and curved multi-layer laminated cabinet, which is precision-finished in cherry or black ash real-wood veneer, provides a rigid and optimally damped environment for the Company’s acclaimed SH25-76 Soft Dome tweeter and 150mm Super-Linear mid/bass driver. Drive units are individually powered by an upgraded bi-amp pack (also proprietary), comprising ATC’s discrete MOSFET Class A/B modules, providing 32W of continuous power to the HF section and 150W to the bass.

ATC SH25-76 Tweeter

Sharing technology with the renowned ATC Soft Domed mid-range drive unit, the SCM19AT SL's tweeter employs a unique dual suspension system, designed to suppress rocking modes even at high power output levels. The ATC configuration of a short edge-wound voice coil in a long, narrow magnetic gap ensures exceptionally low distortion throughout the tweeter’s operating band and removes the need for ferrofluids, which can dry out over time, compromising performance. A complex-shaped, soft-domed diaphragm extends high frequency range and offers a smooth off-axis response. The tweeter’s 15,000 gauss (1.5 tesla) neodymium magnet has a black heat-treated top plate, which dissipates heat away from the voice coil to maintain high power handling and low power compression. A precision-machined 5.5mm rigid alloy waveguide provides optimum dispersion with a flat on-axis frequency response and resonance-free operation.

ATC SB75-150 SL mid/bass driver

The SCM19AT SL’s 150mm ATC SL mid/bass driver utilises a carefully weighted doped fabric cone with a 75mm soft dome – exceptional for its broad and even dispersion of mid-band frequencies. The cone is driven by an ‘under-hung’ (short coil/long gap) motor using a huge 9kg ‘Super Linear’ magnet system, which is unique to ATC loudspeaker systems. The 75mm ribbon wire voice coil is meticulously milled and wound in-house by ATC. ATC’s familiar under-hung motor topology maintains linear coil force and inductance, even at high drive levels, keeping distortion low.

Electronics

The SCM19AT SL’s proprietary two-way on-board amp pack design has been revised to reduce noise and distortion (a further -10dB @ 10kHz), while achieving a lower operating temperature for improved reliability. The design includes protection circuits for both DC offset and thermal overload. Mid frequency THD is vanishingly low at 93dB/0.002%, and a very wide bandwidth of 200 kHz ensures the accurate reproduction of musical transients. ATC’s Grounded Source output stage modules are fed by a newly developed two-way active crossover section featuring 2nd order modified Butterworth circuitry with phase compensation for each crossover point. The advantage of active crossovers is that their response remains unaffected by variable voice coil impedance, while the use of phase compensation enables phase coherency at the crossover points, improving the SCM19AT SL’s tonal balance and enhancing imaging for a pin-point stereo field. As usual system input is via balanced XLR.

The ATC SCM19AT SL – the first active 19 in the Company’s history – is designed for optimum performance with the grille attached, although the difference in performance without the grill is minimal. Finished in anthracite grey, the metal grille fixes to the cabinet via hidden magnets. Designed and manufactured by ATC entirely in-house, the SCM19AT SL offers the ownership of a hand-built ruggedly engineered speaker system, world famous for musical accuracy and high power output. Like all ATC products, the SCM19AT SL is backed by a six-year warranty.

Positive-Feedback reviews ATC's curved SCM40A active monitors

"ATC are makers of studio monitors. I expect every reader of this review has at least one recording in which an ATC speaker was used in producing it. And we're talking some exceptional recordings, think Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, Diana Krall, and great recording engineers, again think Doug Sax, George Massenburg and Bob Ludwig and even Walt Disney Concert Hall."

"Despite striking levels of transparency, ATC speakers share sonic characteristics between models more than any brand I've heard."

"Still, vocals are extraordinarily clear and clean—likely due to ATC's mid-dome driver which covers the range from 350Hz to 3.5kHz—essentially single driver reproduction of the vocal range. With vocals produced from a single driver, performance is enhanced. The mid-dome driver did its ATC magic. Well recorded vocals have a clarity, immediacy and "speed" that few other cone driver brands have."

"I like the place the 40A plays in the ATC line. It's an angel's balance of the somewhat kinder, gentler domestic line with a slice of the precision of their studio line. Absolutely recommended."

Hi-Fi Choice reviews ATC's CDA2 MK2 CDP/DSD DAC/Pre Amplifier and curved SCM40A active monitors

"As the active loudspeaker comes of age, Ed Selley sees just what a master of the art is capable of."

"One of the very best implementations of active speakers that I have spent time with."

"Of course, you don't buy products from ATC simply because they look nice, and the moment that you ask this system to get down to business, it reminds you of this in no uncertain terms."

"what is most immediately arresting is what a difference going active makes to the SCM40. The passive version of the speaker is supremely capable, but mated with ATC’s own amplification it feels like the whole presentation has been turbocharged."

"And the bass… the low end on offer here is exquisite. The technical arguments for why active speakers can generate better bass than an equivalent passive design are worthy and entirely accurate, but are no substitute for listening to what this system is really capable of. The sledgehammer low-end of Scratch Massive’s Waiting For A Sign is simply awesome. If you want bass that you feel as much as hear, there’s very little else available anywhere near this price that can out slam this setup. What sets it apart further is that there’s nothing I’ve ever heard anywhere near this price that combines this gut-wrenching impact with the agility this system possesses."

"The active loudspeaker is no longer simply the optimal choice on paper, it’s a real world champion too."

http://www.tonepublications.com/MAGPDF/TA_073.pdf (page 138)
Tone Audio reviews ATC's curved SCM40A active monitors

"Power up the SCM40A and the ears are greeted with a speaker that has a solid grip on whatever music is played. When the Romans’ “Uh Huh” via Tidal is playing, the bass frequencies penetrate while the finger snapping is rich and textured. It’s immediately apparent that these speakers rock the house."

"All ATC drivers are built in-house, not by a third party. This may cost a bit more but the result is a perfect match from design to implementation. From the one-inch soft dome tweeter, 3-inch dome midrange, and the 6.5-inch short coil bass driver, accuracy is key and the SCM40-As have it in spades. “Shine” by Years and Years is downright addicting with its electronic bass and keyboards. The sound is so spot on you almost start listening for an artifact from Pro Tools."

"The mid range is the money zone in speakers, and never is this truer than with the SCM40As. The soft dome is a revelation, especially with acoustic guitars. The romantic Mexican string style in “Puesta Del Sol” by Sean Harkness combines mellow richness with clarity. This accuracy is a hallmark of ATC."

"For those who crave accuracy above all, the ATC SCM40A is an absolute finalist for your system. As for the balance of buyers in this price range, do yourself a favor and give them an audition; hearing the dome midrange itself is worth the time."

Mark Marcantonio

"ATC is best known for their work with recording studios, and their speakers also reside in the home of many musicians. No wonder, because they offer outstanding dispersion, tonal accuracy and tremendous dynamic range along with low distortion. Their ability to play without fatigue in the recording studio translates into home speakers that can rock at concert level all day long, should you have the need."

"If you’re tired of the cable and equipment hassle, I can’t suggest a better pair of active speakers than the ATC SCM40As. They produce sound well beyond what their price tag suggests, especially considering that you will eliminate at least a few thousand dollars in speaker cables and power amplifiers."

SoundStage Experience reviews ATC's curved SCM19 passive monitors -

"Does the name Billy Woodman ring a bell? Although he may not have been involved in any of the audio components you use at home, it’s very likely that Woodman designed some of the gear used in recording the music you listen to. All over the world, many of the finest musicians and audio engineers make their most crucial judgments of their work by listening to it through monitors made by ATC, the company Woodman founded in 1974. Beck, Kate Bush, Coldplay, Mark Knopfler, Diana Krall, Tom Petty, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Supertramp, Jack White -- all have depended on ATC monitors to get an accurate idea of what’s really on their master recordings. If you’ve ever enjoyed records engineered and/or produced by T Bone Burnett, Bob Ludwig, Mark Ronson, or Doug Sax, or in the studios of Electric Lady or Telarc, or Sony’s massive SACD remastering facilities, you owe some of that pleasure to Woodman’s stunning speaker designs. Even at Abbey Road Studios, right next to the Bowers & Wilkins monitors you always see advertised, you also see ATCs."

Back in 1974, Billy Woodman made a bold move into the professional sound industry by producing a loudspeaker that would play louder with much less distortion than was the norm, and with extreme reliability. These qualities would become the core of his company’s philosophy of sound. By 1976, he’d added the SM75-150 soft-dome midrange driver to his portfolio, and nothing did more to change ATC’s fortunes. This driver checked off each of Woodman’s design goals: it offered crystal-clear sound, could play very loud without breakup, and was preternaturally dependable. It kept its place at the top of the midrange-driver food chain for decades, with only minor upgrades. Soon Woodman added active amplification, and active crossovers with built-in phase correction, and the modern ATC monitor speaker was born."

"ATC’s trademark effortless sound was still there in the SCM19 V2 -- but sound is the wrong word. What I heard was so effortless that I never heard a trace of the existence of a crossover and separate drivers. It was as if the term headroom had never been coined."

"But if you want the sound quality and sturdiness of a pro speaker, and the knowledge that your music was likely monitored in the studio through speakers made by the same company in the first place, then look at ATC’s Consumer HiFi models. A pair of ATC SCM19 V2s ($4299), along with their clean - and open-sounding P1 dual-mono power amplifier ($4200), total $8499 and would be hard to match.

Ever since I bought my first pair of ATC speakers 20 years ago, it’s been my opinion that you can never go wrong with ATC. I nominate Billy Woodman for the Audio Hall of Fame."

What Hi-Fi reviews ATC's curved SCM19 passive monitors.

"If you value insight and honesty above all else, these speakers are a terrific buy."

"This mid/bass really is something unusual. It uses a cone made of doped polyester weave onto which a 75mm dome is grafted in a bid to improve the unit’s performance at the integration point. Take one of these drivers out of the 19s and you’ll find it’s a heavily engineered unit with a huge magnet assembly. It weighs-in at a hefty 9kg, accounting for almost half the weight of the speaker.

The big news isn’t the mid/bass though. That honour belongs to the new tweeter (shown above). This 25mm soft dome has been in development for years and is made in-house – quite an accomplishment for such a small company."

"There’s a clear sense of how large the recording venue is, the SCM19s picking up the subtle acoustic clues that allow us to perceive that size. Piano notes are delivered with solidity and finesse. We’re struck by the layers of harmonics the speakers resolve and the natural way these standmounters render the varying intensity of the keystrokes."

"The leadings and trailing edges of notes are crisply defined without sounding artificially hyped. These speakers really sound right at home here, delivering a presentation that’s as convincing tonally as it is spellbinding dynamically."

"These ATCs are highly analytical yet never sound clinical or passionless, and are transparent to the original recording and system electronics. Buy with confidence."

The Absolute Sound reviews ATC's curved SCM19 passive monitors

"For the past forty years, British loudspeaker-maker ATC has forged an enviable reputation in recording/mastering studios, concert halls, and post-production facilities worldwide. Its professional active monitors are akin to precision tools, as faithful to the source as they are indestructible. Though not as well known in the high end, the same bloodline holds true in ATC’s consumer line of mostly passive loudspeakers. The company’s across-the-board excellence has never been more evident than in its latest offering, the SCM19."

"Actually, it’s more accurate to characterize ATC as, first and foremost, a transducer company. Other loudspeaker manufacturers typically source their drivers from third parties; ATC doesn’t. Its transducers are still engineered, tested, and assembled as they have been for decades in the same, small facility in Stroud, England."

"The ATC sound is fully committed, never retiring. And so it goes with the new SCM19. Its resolution is unstoppable, as if it is on a mission to exploit every single aspect of an amplifier’s output. Tonally faithful to the source, the 19 is brimming with midrange power and a single-driver like coherence, challenging if not surpassing its compact predecessors."

"While its tonality is admirable, the true greatness of the SCM19—and its most striking feature—is the lifelike relationship between that tonal balance and the speaker’s midband and treble-range dynamic output. Very rarely have I heard a two-way compact of this size that has balanced these twin imperatives— tonality and dynamics—with the ease and precision of the 19."

"The SCM19 benefits greatly from an uncoloured enclosure that permits more of the potential of the transducers to be heard. This is a quieter, less-coloured box that steps out of the way of the signal and effectively disappears. It results in a speaker that launches transients without hesitation and articulates lower frequencies with greater precision."

"Although this review should speak for itself, let me reiterate: The ATC SCM19 is, without reservation, a superb monitor that should excite and please the most discriminating of listeners. My highest recommendation."

ATC SH25-76 HF Unit

Sharing technology with the renowned ATC Soft Domed mid-range drive unit, the new tweeter employs a unique dual suspension system suppressing rocking modes even at high power output levels. The ATC configuration of a short edge-wound voice coil in a long, narrow magnetic gap ensures exceptionally low distortion throughout its operating band and removes the need for ferrofluids, which can dry out over time, compromising performance.

A complex, shaped, soft-domed diaphragm extends high frequency range and offers a smooth off-axis response. The tweeter’s 15,000 gauss (1.5 tesla) neodymium magnet has a black heat-treated top plate, which dissipates heat away from the voice coil to maintain high power handling and low power compression. A precision-machined 5.5mm rigid alloy waveguide provides optimum dispersion, a flat on-axis frequency response and resonance-free operation.

ATC's security guard

ATC’s SH25-76 soft dome tweeter is joined by the company’s highly linear 150mm mid/bass driver. It features an integrated 75mm soft dome – exceptional for its horizontal dispersion of mid-band frequencies – and a huge 9kg high-energy, ‘Super Linear’ magnet system, which includes a 75mm diameter flat wire, underhung voice coil, meticulously milled and formed by ATC. The magnet system and a carefully weighted doped fabric cone assembly contribute to the SCM19’s wide bandwidth, impressive dynamic range and convincing bass output coupled with very low distortion as a result of the unique ‘Super Linear’ motor system.

Second Generation SCM19 - New Cabinets and Systems

Establishing what is to be a new style for ATC’s most competitively priced range of loudspeakers, the new SCM19's benefit acoustically and aesthetically from a curved cabinet construction. Braced and laminated for high rigidity and damping, the curved enclosures in real cherry or black ash veneer also impart a strong impression of design quality. Improved crossovers featuring metallised polypropylene capacitors, large air cored inductors and ceramic wire-round resistors offer superior power handling and clarity. The SCM19 exhibit an impedance curve free from low values, presenting an easy load for amplifiers of 75 to 300 watts. The SCM19 is designed for optimum performance with the grill in place – although the difference in performance without the grill is minimal. The metal grille, finished in anthracite grey, fixes to the cabinet via hidden magnets. According to tradition, each model number represents internal cabinet volume in litres.

Positive-Feedback reviews ATC's curved SCM40A active monitors -

https://positive-feedback.com/reviews/hardware-reviews/getting-active-with-atc-scm-40a-speakers/

What Hi-Fi reviews ATC's curved SCM40A active monitors

"But factor the built-in amplification, exotically engineered in-house drive units and the resultant exceptional sound quality and the SCM40A emerge as something of a high-end bargain. Consider us smitten."

"The ATC SCM40As are the most affordable way to get a full dose of ATC’s technology and engineering. The results are terrific."

Absolutely recommended."

https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/atc-scm50
What Hi-Fi reviews ATC's SCM50 PSL passive monitors -

"We’ve been using ATC’s SCM50 as our reference speakers for well over a decade. Over that time they’ve been connected to just about every piece of electronics that has passed through our test rooms, from budget microsystems (just for fun, you understand) all the way up to monster pre/powers that retail for Porsche money. In all that time, and with those many hundreds of components, they have never once let us down."

"Our chosen reference speakers need to be a transparent window to the sources and amplification we test, and these ATCs fit the bill superbly. In short, they are honest, even-handed speakers that don’t put a significant twist on the signal they’re fed."

"These are no ordinary drive units. The company’s background is firmly planted in the Pro world where reliability and high power handling are essentials. But these things are not ATC’s only aims. The company’s engineers value low distortion and dynamic ability, and have spent years developing these units, only putting them into production when they are sure that every box has been ticked."

"If we had to describe the ATC’s sound in one word, it would be ‘honest’. They don’t flavour or try to make things more exciting by adding a little treble sparkle or bass thump. They simply try to reproduce the signal faithfully."

"These ATCs dig up plenty of information, whether it's a nuance in Jay Z’s rapid-fire delivery or the texture of a bass sound, and render it in a natural and unforced way. These speakers don’t go out of their way to highlight detail. They just present all the information in a balanced, natural and convincing way."

"Yet we haven’t managed to find something that’s as satisfying an all-rounder or as practical to use as a day-to-day review tool. Considering the SCM50 was originally introduced in the mid-80s, that’s quite some achievement. It seems great engineering doesn’t date."

The Ear reviews ATC's P2 300w/ch dual mono power stereo power amplifier -

"I suspect that the P2 will drive just about everything out there, it’s just a question of taste as to whether you will like the result. ATC make no nonsense, down to earth amplifiers and loudspeakers based on decades of experience in the pro and consumer markets, and they make them in Gloucestershire, England in an unprepossessing building. This combined with a singularly indifferent attitude to advertising means that ATC products offer better value than most, in fact there aren’t many companies that compete on that front and even fewer who have such a solid track record. In other words this is not only a very capable amplifier it has pedigree and it’s sensibly priced. What more do you want?"

The Ear reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors -

http://www.the-ear.net/review-hardware/atc-scm19a-floorstanding-active-loudspeaker

Hi-Fi Choice reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

The Absolute Sound reviews ATC's curved SCM19 passive monitors -

http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/atc-scm19-loudspeaker-1/

SoundStage Experience reviews ATC's curved SCM19 passive monitors

"Given a serious source and recording, the ATC SCM40 is superb - I know of no price rivals that give this level of accuracy, speed and insight. it strings the rhythmic elements of the mix brilliantly, punching out subtle dynamic inflections in a marvellously satisfying and visceral way. But then again it will have you fretting about how best to drive it for years to come, because you know it's capable of a level of transparency you'd normally only expect from loudspeakers at three or fours times its price. It's certainly a great speaker to commit to and build a system around....."

Hi-Fi WigWam reviews ATC's curved SCM40 passive monitors

"Giant Killers – ATC SCM40."

"I want an insight, I want to feel like the Guitar amp is in front of me, the kick drums are not far behind and to feel involved in the music at a very live and connected level. Nothing else I have heard in a small living room has managed this feat. These do it with ease, they don’t shout at you, and don’t need to be played loud to sound their best, they deliver whether you are listening to Steely Dan, or Metallica, JS Bach or Phillip Glass."

"The bass is so taught, yet thunderously deep. My room is shockingly difficult for bass bloom, yet the ATC’s have everything under control. Deep and tuneful, in a way that is entirely new at WigWam towers."

"The bottom line.. I’m sold. I can’t live without them. I need them in my life and will have to make the change."

"Audition carefully, but please, do audition. In the right system, you would have to spend £10k to get anywhere close to this sound quality."

The new SCM40 features ATC’s new SH25-76 tweeter with a ATC’s renowned 75mm/3” Soft Dome mid-range and a 164mm, short coil – long gap (underhung) bass driver. The three-way design and inclusion of the Soft Dome mid results in excellent clarity, even at high drive levels with bass heavy source material. It also gives wide, even dispersion resulting in excellent stereo imaging and un-fussy positioning in the home. The new model also benefits from crossover revisions that have improved the loudspeakers overall balance and the integration between mid and high frequency elements.

Our clients reasons for choosing ATC's curved SCM40A active monitors -

My motivation for purchasing the ATC active speakers were two fold. Firstly the sound produced by these speakers at this price point is amazing. A separate amplifier per driver combined with active filters. No need to mention the amazing mid range driver but the non-ferro fluid tweeter that will not degrade is a lesser known fact. That is a lot of no-nonsense engineering for your money.

Secondly I wanted a simple setup that I can fully control through a home automation system.

A quick chat to one of the engineers at ATC confirmed that the built in amplifiers in the speakers are perfectly fine with being switched on/off with an external switch.

Hardware -

Raspberry Pi with Hifiberry balanced DAC / pre-amp. Separate power supplies for raspberry and DAC.

Aeotec Gen 6 Z-wave switch. Used to remote control power to the speakers.

Van Damme studio microphone cable with Neutric Gold connectors between DAC output and speakers.

Android phones and tablets as remote controls.

Any dlna/upnp app that you prefer. I like HiFi Cast so far.

Software -

Minimserver on Nas.

Rune audio on raspberry pi as control point.

Home Assistant automation software running on separate Raspberry Pi.

All together this will allows me to do some pretty neat automations.

Press play on any remote control and speakers will turn on.

Tell a Google Home device to "Play Led Zeppelin on stereo".

Start playing a certain genre or "mood" when people arrive home automatically.

If nothing is playing on ATC speakers for 30 minutes, speakers will turn off.

Include ATC speakers in a Chromecast group

Summary -

The only visible hardware in my living room are the ATC speakers and a tablet as a remote control. You cannot go more minimalistic than that. It is all about the music.

The results are terrific."

http://www.tonepublications.com/MAGPDF/TA_073.pdf (page 138)

"As the active loudspeaker comes of age, Ed Selley sees just what a master of the art is capable of."

"Despite striking levels of transparency, ATC speakers share sonic characteristics between models more than any brand I've heard."

What Hi-Fi reviews ATC's curved SCM19 passive monitors -

http://www.whathifi.com/atc/scm19/review

"If you value insight and honesty above all else, these speakers are a terrific buy."

"This mid/bass really is something unusual. It uses a cone made of doped polyester weave onto which a 75mm dome is grafted in a bid to improve the unit’s performance at the integration point. Take one of these drivers out of the 19s and you’ll find it’s a heavily engineered unit with a huge magnet assembly. It weighs-in at a hefty 9kg, accounting for almost half the weight of the speaker.

The big news isn’t the mid/bass though. That honour belongs to the new tweeter.

SoundStage Experience reviews ATC's curved SCM19 passive monitors

I nominate Billy Woodman for the Audio Hall of Fame."

http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/atc-scm19-loudspeaker-1/

The Speaker Shack reviews ATC's curved SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors -

https://www.speakershack.co.uk/articleResult.php?subject=1&record=1729

Hi-Fi Choice reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

Positive Feedback reviews ATC's SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

“…also takes a company with diverse engineering expertise to cover electronics, mechanics, electro-mechanics, and other disciplines and this is rare. ATC clearly has the engineering talent required as they have been in business over 40 years and producing active speakers for many of them. The SCM19ATs are a wonderful advancement in the state of the art of active loudspeakers. You could easily spend three times as much on comparable separate components and not do as well. I strongly encourage you to seek out the ATCs and give them a listen.”

Michael Wechsberg | Positive Feedback 09-06-2016 | | Issue 87

The Ear reviews ATC's curved SCM19AT SL Active Tower monitors

What Hi-Fi reviews ATC's SCM50 PSL passive monitors -

https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/atc-scm50

ATC SCM50 PSL passive monitors

The SCM50 ASL (active) and SCM50 PSL (passive) are designed to perform at their best in the recording studio or at home with the finest quality hi-fi equipment.

The monitors’ ability to reproduce music and speech with phenomenal accuracy, transparency and dynamics lies mainly in the SM75-150S soft dome midrange driver. However, recent modifications that include the new ATC SH25-76S tweeter and enhanced port profile have brought about further improvements to all performance parameters.

Each drive unit in the active model has its own dedicated and individually matched MOS-FET amplifier, while the 234mm/9″ bass driver incorporates ATC’s unique Super Linear Magnet technology. Our active crossover network consists of a wide band-width, electronically balanced input stage with high common mode rejection and very low distortion.

Like the HF, mid and bass drivers, all electronics are designed and manufactured in-house to create a no-compromise active system. In passive form, the SCM50 PSL provides broad and symmetrical dispersion, excellent amplitude and phase characteristics throughout the frequency range.

Positive-Feedback reviews ATC's curved SCM40A active monitors -

https://positive-feedback.com/reviews/hardware-reviews/getting-active-with-atc-scm-40a-speakers/

The curved SCM40A is an active version of ATC's highly successful curved SCM40 passive monitors. The 3-way design, employing all hand built ATC drive units is complimented with a built-in 235Watt class AB tri-amplifier. The MOSFET based amplifier is a modified version of that found in ATC's larger active monitors, the SCM50ASL, SCM100ASL and SCM150ASL.

The results are terrific."

http://atcloudspeakers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/HFC_438_SCM40A_CDA2_Review_Low.pdf
