I’ve been an ECM follower since first hearing Pat Metheny around 1984, certainly opened my ears to a lot of great music which I enjoy so much to this day.
And I’ve been lucky enough to to see all the label greats in concert over here in those years too.

The point the author makes about ECM establishing the reputation of European jazz is a well made. But his claim that ECM has been at ease with free jazz is a bit harder to digest. The recordings he cites to support this were made in the 70s and early 80s.

Thanks for the link. A very interesting article. I think every album I own on the ECM label is distinctive and I can't recall anything I've regretted buying.
