Art Pepper

I am a great fan of Art Pepper too. My absolute favorite is Blues for the Fisherman with Milcho Leviev on Mole. There was a second called True Blues, but I prefer the first. My copies are on the black stuff and they may not have reached CD but I am sure someone here can correct this. His King recordings that were released in Japan and subsequently put out on Blue Note are also among my favorites.

Am a huge fan of the late, post-rehab, Pepper with his constipated sputtering horn playing. The early Pepper was of a decidedly different "West Coast" style which was enjoyable on its own terms.

The live sets were particularly riveting i.e. those at the Maiden Voyage and at the Vanguard. I also like the studio albums of his quartet with Cables.

Definitely one of the greatest alto players.

Martin, glad you are enjoying your new "pepper/cables".

what is it called. The one I have is "Going Home", just a duo. But but it doesnt have "Over the Rainbow" on it.

Just re read the cover of mine. It was recorded 11-12 May 82, 1 month before he died.
