Antonio Cifra 1584-1629

Citizen of Nowhere™
I was given a CD by a friend last week. The only markings are the name of the composer, Antonio Cifra, and "Loreto Vespers". I had never heard of either. Looking him up, it seems he was one of the notable composers in the transition from Renaissance to early Baroque.

The musical is beautiful, a bit like Monteverdi or Palestrina, full, varied and full of surprises. This apparently what late-style Cifra was about (these Vespers are dated 1629, the year of his death). The number of tracks and the good sound quality of the recording make me think it is this one:

Best bio I've found online:

Well worth looking into for anyone interested in that period.
