Just to be pedantic: Both Rega and Royd drive units are round - however, the surrounding assembly of the Royd is round, Rega's is square-ish.

Seconded - or 14s if you can give them a little more space.

Do not change the electronics - they are not the cause of the issue.
The Ela is excellent but a lean and rather toppy speaker - it is built that way - swapping the electronics will do sod-all. Address the real issue.

I can't have more than about 15 inches to the side and rear, which limits things a bit...

I think linn ninkas will fit the bill nicely, they are a remarkably capable speaker and work well with naim (they will really sing on your 250), I own both ninkas and mk1 elas, I love elas for acoustic music but ninkas rock and can play anything
