its, vague , so people like you don't nick their volume gizmo'
They used an even better version in the late version of the DSP50s, the more-refined one with the offboard supply
It remains an utter joy to use..
The P&G pots I've seen are all like that!
NAIM made me enjoy music for many years, not for you it would seem. We all have different tastes. Not looking to start an epic internet battle but your affirmation that you've never encountered an Alps pot that was "less than perfect" is tantamount to claiming the Pope is Buddhist. It's just not credible, but whatever.
Your statement on Naim however is one I can fully support, with perhaps the requirement that free would still be too expensive and that Naim should pay me to take one of their products.
But, no need to fight about this stuff.
Wouldn't it have been reasonable, considering cost of the Osiris, to develop a custom solution?
Here is what Benchmark did. I have no idea if this is a custom implementation or 'off the shelf' but it ads perceived value to an expensive product plus technical advantages, at least according to the marketing blurb. Benchmark usually measure well.

My OP doesn't just apply to Rega. I do wonder if conventional volume pots belong in expensive products.
The unjustified blind faith that Naim apparently has in these god-awful contraptions is precisely what drove me away from Naim.
If you want to hear how bad an Alps pot can be, have a look at Naim preamps and integrateds.
Less than perfect would be greater than a 3dB variation between channels though. IMHO and alps blue can be 'perfect' but still a long way from acceptable!
They still have the nicest feel of anything in their price range, especially the motorised ones.
These seem incredibly, too good to be true cheap on Ali Express. Anyone bitten? Same spec? Experiences?Click, click Japanese relays - completely transparent.
See this months Stereophile for comparison against a £17K preamp.
£ 500 ish (remote a bit mehhh)

Ah yes it was Penny and Giles I was thinking of when I mentioned Noble earlier! Only around £500 each!
The one time I've seen one in audio gear was in a DPA pre amp.
