All purpose cycling thread 2022

I've just started cycling again after surgery on a hydrocele last year - a build up of fluid has caused me to have a testicle the size of a grape fruit. Apologies to anyone currently indulging in this fruit.
Results have been mixed with some setbacks so I have now ordered a couple of cutaway saddles. I may try a nose free ISM if that does not work. Anyone have any experience with this saddle?
Any help appreciated.
A friend has had a couple of hydrocele operations, cutaway saddles can help but they rely on you keeping a pretty fixed position on bike.

I have an ISO saddle on a TT bike, they do take a lot of getting used to, not sure they are suitable for ‘normal’ riding. Quite hard on the ‘sit bones’.

Good luck, saddles are a very personal thing, find a comfortable one first.

Advertise it here, there are a good few cyclists. Gumtree is good for local buyers of standard items of value less than say a few hundred pounds. For specialist stuff try a cycling forum such as Cyclechat.
Cheers. It’s a gravel bike less than 3 years old, but with probably less than 300 miles on the clock. RRP was £1200ish when I bought it. If I decide to sell I might try it here first.

Blimey. Leave the swelling Doctor, just take away the pain. Bike saddles are a personal thing. Some forums allow a saddle exchange by way of a try- out. You pay some kind of deposit and return postage and get to try someone's spare. Good idea.

N-1!

Managed to sell the Claud Butler hybrid I had surplus. Advertised as a Large turned out to be a medium. Thought it might do but no, when the saddle was high enough for my long legs I had too much weight on my hands. So it had to go back on FB Marketplace. I only lost £20 on it.

Current stable is my much upgraded 1984 Raleigh Royal, a Tern HSD S8i and Dahon folder.

The Tern is used for shopping and errands, I have found it very versatile and convenient. It seems to have survived my recent accident in much better condition than me. I think a new front mudguard is about all it needs.

I'm probably at least 2 weeks off getting back on 2 wheels.

Classifieds, and by all means post a link on this thread. That way it will be seen by those interested in buying a bike, and the rest who want to talk cycling but aren't buying can ignore the link.

You will be able to go up a size of two if you remove the guards, maybe make another arrangement. TBH an "ass saver" type guard works well enough unless it's absolutely sopping wet , in which case would you be out?
If you go to a local bike shop they will advise, certainly if you can fit say 28c or even 30 then a cycle cross type tyre will give you steady handling.

If you do decide to sell, you will need to add the spec, as £300 is quite a sum for a used bike.

@PhilofCas I used to go watch Featherstone Rovers in the 1980s with my grandfather. We'd walk from Pontefract (near the licorice factory) over to Featherstone and back. Back then Castleford were the arch rivals !!

Apologies Sean, I meant Featherstone Road Club, did you ever go with them?

(Concerning watching Rovers, that’s a decent walk and back to see the games. They’ve been doing well for a good numbers of years, even beating Cas in the [Challenge) cup in 2012 ).

I should know the answer to this amidst swift, sufferfest et al but can’t remember and I dare say someone will know.

I had a bike fit many years ago and it used a set up with screen simulating a classic climb and was my motivation for getting a smart trainer and wanting to have a simulated meander up a known climb. I went down the rabbit hole of swift but can’t stand computer games and after a while it’s how I felt so I went back to my old back wheel turbo trainer and music and the Elite Director was consigned to the loft. Then forgot all about my original motivation and finally remembered!

So, does anyone know what I need to obtain to load a classic climb and ride that? I have the Dureto, TV screen and an Apple TV box so I think it’s just the right app I’m looking for.

I'm going to be able to watch the Giro stage finish in Scalea tomorrow. 5 miles from me right now. That's better than working in a chicken factory.
watched it yesterday, great fun. Cloudy and cool today, they went past the end of the village an hour ago or so, they're now climbing up through Marutea, where we had dinner the other night. It's going to be a tough day in the mountains, they are actually racing today in contrast with yesterday's procession to the sprint finish. It's cool, still, ideal conditions for racing.
