Afghanistan withdrawal.

Think of it as a toll fee. People on checkpoints are now Government employees and they have to eat too.

I’m sure that’s exactly how they justify them. Plus bullets and RPGs don’t buy themselves.

It is generally accepted that the Taliban Version 1 were less corrupt than previous Government employees, or those in surrounding countries.

Not quite sure how they're produced, used to be on Rainham marshes just outside London but illegal here now akaik.

We have a lot of prescription opiates thankfully. Tramadol is synthetic.

I seem to recall that there are ‘approved’ growings in the UK for medicinal use

Great to see the Taliban making good on their promise to keep Afghanistan free from Islamic terrorist groups.
The Taliban are not in the control that they would like to think. Once the west has gone, you can be sure that there will be continued news of effectively internal civil wars continuing.

Islamic finance does not like ‘interest’ payments on loans nor bribery. But taxation is allowed. And Islamic mortgages may not permit ‘interest’ but the solution is easy… you pay rent alongside repaying the loan and then magically you can then take full possession. The distinction over a regular mortgage
Is selling shit loads of heroin allowed under Sharia law?

To infidels? I would think the religious elders would love it.

Surely President Biden has a contingency plan for this.

I think his line will be, their own army, that The American Taxpayer paid billions to equip and train, couldn’t be bothered to defend the country, and probably promptly changed sides anyway, ungrateful sods, so fück them.

If he says it loud and often enough the electorate will believe it.

I do believe I said upthread that the Taliban 'question' can be seen as a sectarian issue within the Islamic world. The whole ISIS-K thing, plus the other lot that are holding out against the Taliban, rather prove this point.
And irony of ironies, the BBC reporter bloke on the news tonight said that he thought the Taliban "might need American help to deal with ISIS-K". If that's true.. then there's a bit more 'leverage'..and another crack in the Taliban 'invincibility'.
I seem to recall stuff (possibly from the excellent 'Power of Nightmares') which showed a marked tendency for extremist Islamic groups to go into a reciprocal spiral of 'out extreming' each other until they basically end up exterminating each other.
If it wasn't for all of the ordinary people who just want to live out their lives in peace..who..as ever.. get to be the 'collateral damage'.. I'd just say 'Let them get on with it.'

Similar laws against 'usury' existed in early Christian thought. If I recall from distant uni stuff, the principles of Lucrum Cessans, and Damnum Emergens, soon emerged as 'workarounds'.

In modern language 'usury' has come to mean 'excessive' interest rate - rather like the payday loans and unpaid credit card interest.

It is based on the principle that financiers should bear some of the risk of any enterprise.
And that new enterprises should not be forced to pay interest until profitable.
Similar to Venture Capital in fact: pretty advanced for 7th Century Arabia.
Not bad principles if a way can be found to implement them: they tend to require honesty which is in short supply.

ISIS-K and the Taliban will be very hostile as the Taliban Emirate will not give allegiance to the ISIS Caliphate. We get trouble from a Philippines based branch in Sabah, notionally ISIS supporters. Seven of them killed recently.

My respect and prayers go to the Northern Alliance in the Panjshir valley, the only resistance left to the Taliban, hope they can keep them out of the valley...
