Adapting Gyro bearing for Orbe clamp

Any tips for this procedure? I’d like to keep the Gyro spindle intact.

Well I had a go with the vice and of course it was straightforward.

Question though: the nut that came with the kit that couples the platter to the bearing is thicker than the original Gyro one, and stands proud of the platter - is this supposed to happen, or is my platter incompatible? There is some stuff on the web about this but it’s not very clear.

Intentional. The LP bends down over the nut when clamped.

Do not overtighten the clamp, that sounds bad.
