Went for a lunchtime stroll to Fopp in Covent Garden to see a new display of £5 Blue Note cds

Some expected selections, but some less so. Any recommendations?

Eric Dolphy, Wayne Shorter and Dexter Gordon. Shame they weren’t on vinyl!

I went for the Ornette Coleman and two 1970's Donald Byrd (sorry ! out of shot)

If the Ornette volumes are the RVG editions with extra tracks, then every home should have them as the longer alternate take of European Echoes is absolutely stunning IMO, and probably too long for programming on the original LP.

One of my Tonepoet fantasy wishes would be double albums of both Golden Circle volumes with the extra material.

All three of these shown here are on the DeAgostini Jazz 33 Vinyl reissues and although not the last word in sound quality (they are not Tone a Poets :( but pretty good), the Go and Out to Lunch are much better than the two Van Gelder versions I also have on CD's that appear to be the same as those shown. The DeAgostine online shop seems down at the moment, but back numbers were still available for £14.99 each.

Some personal favorites:

Grant Green, Idle Moments
Herbie Hancock, Empyrean Isles
Freddie Hubbard, Hub Tones
Art Blakey, Night in Tunisia
Wayne Shorter, Speak No Evil
Herbie Hancock, Maiden Voyage
Grant Green, Street of Dreams
Dexter Gordon, Go
Larry Young, Unity
Ornette Coleman, At Golden Circle
Cannonball Adderly, Somethin' Else
Wayne Shorter, Juju
John Coltrane, Blue Train

A lot but all classics. Stuff that I've been listening to for over 25 years and I keep coming back to them...
