A thread to catalogue the wit, wisdom and utter incompetence of Gavin Williamson

I did like the subtle dig at him on Channel 4 news this evening
"in all of his xxx days in office he has never once accepted and invitation to appear on Channel 4"

Maybe they should say that they are investigating National security leaks :)

Oh god, now he wants to ban mobiles from schools. This is Daily Mail clickbait of the highest order. Blame the fall in education standards and discipline on mobile phones.

Many schools ban mobile phones in class, but do very little to back it up. As ever, all these ideas fall on the classroom teacher and just amount to one more thing that takes up teacher time, causes friction and achieves little of substance

Seems like he is intending to appoint a "safe pair of hands" to Ofqual, although the "qual" part is moot. :rolleyes:https://www.theguardian.com/educati...head-ofqual-not-qualified-for-job-says-labour
Saxton joined the DfE in March 2020 and was a ministerial policy adviser to Williamson throughout the A-level and GCSE grading chaos last summer that saw Ofqual’s then chief regulator, Sally Collier, resign amid controversy.

Kate Green, the shadow education secretary, said: “During Dr Saxton’s time as his close adviser, Gavin Williamson oversaw last summer’s exams fiasco and U-turned on holding exams this year. But once again we see the Conservatives handing a plum role to a close adviser who lacks the track record for the job.

“Thousands of students rely on Ofqual for the successful running of exams each year. Without the heavyweight experience of her predecessors, the DfE has serious questions to answer about Dr Saxton’s selection before the public can have confidence in her ability to take on the responsibilities of this office.”

Gavin Williamson was interviewed on BBC Breakfast this morning, the car crash was as I anticipated. His answer to practically every question was a reference to the "successful vaccine programme".

Maybe he’s just not very bright.

You forgot the very important CO2 monitors, which the schools haven’t received yet.

I think the problem is that Williamson has less than zero interest in Education. Education was a demotion, he resents it, he’s not just neglecting Education, he’s actively damaging it.
Exactly, he looks utterly disinterested as he reads his lines for the camera or in Parliament. The eyes are always dead, the only flicker when he made oblique threats last time anyone mentioned he was due for the sack. One of the more odious contributors to a government of all the no talents.

He’d be better suited to being a traffic warden

Alas poor Gavin, but it's the fact that he didn't realise his mistake until after he had spoken to the Press. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-58490809
Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has admitted making a "mistake" when he confused footballer Marcus Rashford with rugby player Maro Itoje.

The Evening Standard newspaper quoted Williamson as saying he had enjoyed a Zoom discussion with England and Manchester United's Rashford.

But an aide later clarified that it had actually been with Itoje.

Manchester-raised Rashford called the difference in accent between him and Londoner Itoje a possible "giveaway".
