One of the ultimate cult artists / bands has to be:
37 Years of recording and probably never troubled the charts once.
L'Ascenseur was a good film, too.On the other hand i still can't listen to L'Ascenseur pour L'Echafaud without hairs standing on end; there's a couple of Harry James recordings with the same effect.
Van Morrison - Dull as ditch water
What year did he release that album?
Neither are cult & both are brilliantPrince
Bruce Springsteen
Neither are cult & both are brilliant
Neither are cult
Sometimes difficult to define cult though especially where bands are concerned.
Well, I didn’t propose Miles Davis but Jazz is rather more niche than mainstream rock/pop/soul....and Miles Davis is? Apologies if I've misunderstood the rules of the game.
PS No, I don’t think you could describe Miles Davis as cult (maybe some rare and pretty extreme albums qualify, e.g. Agharta, Pangea).
Disagree Agharta and Pangea are just off the scale class Live performances. Difficult maybe because they are intense and you have to search out the testing melodies. Not an easy listen aka Rumours but just as rewarding just on a different planet
Only since c.1980...You may think Springsteen [is] overrated…
NonsenseOnly since c.1980...
No, it isn’t nonsense, I really do think that. You may disagree, of course.Nonsense
Born in the USA, Tunnel of Love, Ghost of Tom Joad are all post 1980. They are up there with his very best. I do disagree & think it’s nonsenseNo, it isn’t nonsense, I really do think that. You may disagree, of course.
Don’t get me wrong, they are two of my absolute favourite Miles Davis albums, but they were only originally released in Japan and very few people ‘got’ Miles’s ‘70s visceral fusion stuff at the time. I’d argue they were as ‘cult’ as he got.
