I haven't heard the two side-by-side but I have heard both in their respective systems:

CDS3/252/250(2)/Guru QM10

and

Densen B400XS/B250/B330(b)/Shahinian Arcs.

Both were very enjoyable but I'd lean towards the Densen system.

It is a very good CD player indeed and is up there with a Naim CDS3. That said, so is the Audiolab and it's brand new but the build quality of the Densen is undeniably better.

I could do with some new gloves...

I have an arcam 93T you can have a listen to if you are interested. I like the player, but have gone streaming.

Meridian 598. Will play DVD-A as well as CDs superbly. Spend the other 300-400 on music.

The CDX2 is a dog imho. It just isn't worth the money. I actually prefer the original CDX.

It is a middling player that has been engineered to take its place in the upgrade pecking order (imho.)

CD5XS... A very balanced player. I have had a couple in my office system over last three years and had the chance to compare to my CDS3 in my main system, not as good but certainly cut from the same block without any negatives which i personally feel one could level at the CDX2.

A brand spanking new Audiolab 8200 CDQ for just under a grand. The sound quality is a lot better than it should be for the price and it has multiple digital inputs.

Id second that, a very versatile player and great value for money

The one with the gloves is still there... If I didn't almost have CD players into the double digits.. but nice gloves. I imagine the silver one will go high as it is near new and mint.
