things to see and do in Glasgow

are there any pubs to avoid?
Here is a couple of top tips - pub wise:

Seriously, I used to have a scenery building workshop in Springburn area of the City. The shop carpenters used a local pub for "lunch" most days until someone with a pump action shotgun came in and blew away the barman....who bled out. Those were the days.....Glasgow has changed a lot since then, I think you will have a good time.

If there is a concert on - go to The Barrowlands just for the hell of it.

Plus one for the Burrell. Some beautiful artifacts, some first rank paintings.

Pollock house in Pollock park where the Burrell is is good if it's open as is the park.

The People's palace in Glasgow green is excellent too as are the Botanic gardens at the top of Byres Road.

Some really great parks in Glasgow, Rouken Glen is nice too but that's in East Renfrewshire but not too far away from Pollock park.

Decent wee Italian cafe/restaurant (Cibo) on Victoria road and the young girl chef who was on Saturday kitchen at the weekend has a nice cafe on Kilmarnock road in Shawlands (my son worked with her years ago over in Finneston).

If you're in the city centre at a lunchtime, Cranachan in Princes Square is good. They do excellent Cullen Skink.

You gotta be havin a laugh

Nope, my mum was recently up at Glasgow with her pal for a day out and did the open top bus tour but was distinctly unimpressed as the audio/headset description was way out of sync with the bus and she knows who Neil Oliver is and commented on her displeasure to the driver, she enjoyed Kelvingrove and Gallery of modern art though.

we quite fancy this

There's also a botanic gardens in The Green down at the Saltmarket/High Court but the one up in Byres Road is very good there's also a great restaurant there across Gt Western Road at one Devonshire Gardens, my son worked in there too (and in the Buttery), they do a very good Sunday roast apparently.

The Buttery is good too if you like fish but it's actually an excellent restaurant a wee bit out of the way though although it is in the city centre.
