Megane RS 275 Trophy

Yes, I've a mate that is up to speed on all the BMW models.

I like the idea of a 1 series. There's the...
130i (N52) - but that's only hatch back and I prefer the Coupe shape :( (mapped/modded 125i Coupe is an option too)
135i (N55) - not the earlier N54 twin turbo engine but the later N55 with twin scroll turbo (but I want manual which is rare)

I need to get a go in a M2 but I've heard mixed things and I;d probably want a Comp which is too much money for what I want. Not sure even with an M2 non Comp I want to dealing with the BMW equivalent of a Porsche GT product as I've got enough of that £££ grief in my life already..
I have an F31 with the N55 and 6M box, which I ordered from new in 2013. If I had known the M2 was going to make an appearance a couple of years later, I would have waited. I’ve driven the M2 and I think it is the cat’s pyjamas insofar as pocket rockets go.

My ex had a 997.2 cabrio and when drove it I thought it was heavy and ponderous.

I had the early 996 that did without the drive by wire throttle, and weighed 1320 KG. I believe a 997 Cabrio is 1500 KG and is a bit more refined and comfort orientated than an older 996 coupe.

OK, good to hear that the Fiesta and Megane have a bit more life in them.

I should've grabbed one of these when they were peanuts.

Yes, me too. But I was doing other stuff in my life and if you had one now you would have had to have spent a lot on maintenance and resto. I regret not getting a 205 gti that was running round near me with a "For sale £700" sign in the window for weeks 20 years ago.
These days the equivalent is something like a Suzuki Swift Sport. I haven't got one of them either.
Well, I guess that’s why a lot of people say a 911 is an ‘everyday’ sports car. Not everyone wants to be flying at the seat of their pants every time they get into their car!
Indeed. I've had "special" sports cars that end up being unused because they don't fit with real life. You want a car that you can just get in, one that you could take to the airport at 5am in winter.

Years ago 1995 to be exact I went to buy a sensible work car, they had a beautiful grey Fiat Tipo Seiciovalve in the showroom and they tried to get me to take it out, but stupid me, it was 7k and the Tea-Pot I’d gone to look at was 6k. Always regret that one.

My ‘cool’ uncle had a 1.6 GTI then the 1.9. Fabulous cars. Same uncle got me into cars and hi-fi (he has a lot to answer for).

We've probably all seen this before, but worth watching again. Sums up entirely what FWD hot hatches are about, plus about the exact opposite of what something like an M2 would offer.

I have always lusted after a 911, never after any French car, except perhaps an Alpine A110...

The whole 911R space is such a £££ ****.

There is an insufferableness about owners of pseudo-racecars, I generally avoid having conversations with then on forum or in person ... one time I was on a yacht party for the Nissan GTR club, got bored after 5 minutes of blokes droning on about what a good deal they got, and depreciation, warranty friendly exhaust upgrades etc ...

Looks like a fun pocket rocket there! My brother and his wife have gone through various Mini's, they even owned Madonna's 2002 car at one time.

I have my old 2007 320i Cab at the BMW main dealers right now, service and MOT ... what could possibly go wrong?

Twisted rear brake line and faulty rear side lights ... I got off very lightly knowing the rep that main stealers have!

Nice one. They're a right hoot, I had a same year JCW for a short while which was a laugh and the supercharger whine never gets boring.

Where there are rip off main stealers, there are usually good specialists not too far away. And when one of those specialists goes greedy, another good specialist appears. Unless a main stealer has a great reputation and stunning deals for used car servicing, no way would any car of mine go to them after warranty except for a recall.

That looks like a lot of fun. What are the mods please?

Hi, it was listed on a R53 Facebook group and is a well known car (I paid £4,400 by the way). The mods might sound OTT but they're nothing compared to some of the monsters I've seen. The engine has the cam and injectors I'd want on one but would never get around to doing. She'll chew the fuel on boost, but I don't daily any cars as WFH. It's for a bit of B road bashing, light track work and I'd like to get into hillclimbs. These engine blocks are common as so if you pop one it's £500 to source another...gearboxes even cheaper. Nice linear Dyno plot with useable power up to 7,200 (unlike modern turbo's). I've just copied the sellers text below

"I bought it as a standard cooper S with a great history before getting to work on it. It is modified and all works were done by Chris Benham at B14 minis.

Nice. I had a R56 JCW (same colour) which was a hoot to drive! (it was also on Eibach springs as the standard cars looked like they were on stilts - so odd)

Yeah, I was reading BMW bought the JCW brand around the time the R56 was released and a few years later they seem to be throwing a JCW badge onto everything. The blanked off bonnet scoop on my mates 2016 one was just game over for me.

I was looking at JCW's and even GP's but they're the sort of money I wouldn't be prepared to track let alone hillclimb...fooken "collectors" in action again

Agreed on that. There is a local specialist which I will likely get some other work done soon on the front tracking, however they quoted me significantly more for a major service than the local main dealer whom the latter also includes brake fluid change.

I was just initially apprehensive on the MOT, but it's just one item that needed repair so I'm so far reassured.
