Tone Poet Blue Notes

The Lee Konitz Plays with the Gerry Mulligan Quintet TP currently selling for £18.51 on Amazon

Lee Konitz Plays With The Gerry Mulligan Quartet [VINYL]: Amazon.co.uk: CDs & Vinyl

It's not one I'm particularly tempted by ( I've part of this on my Dad's old Pacific Arts 7" EP) but others may be interested at this price.

Details here:

Lee Konitz Plays With The Gerry Mulligan Quartet – Lee Konitz Plays With The Gerry Mulligan Quartet (2021, 180 g, Vinyl) - Discogs

Amazon seem to think it's a BN Classic judging by the price info.

Thanks for the heads up. Much appreciated. A Tone Poet for £17.58 is a great deal.

Some excellent recordings in this years list. 22 in total this year if they manage to keep to schedule. Most we knew were in the pipeline at some point as Joe Harley indicated what he and Kevin were working on. I’m particularly happy to see the Andrew Hill Dance with Death, McCoy Tyner – Time For Tyner, Sonny Clark Trio – Sonny Clark Trio, Big John Patton – Let ‘Em Roll, Wayne Shorter – Schizophrenia, Herbie Nichols Trio – Herbie Nichols Trio and Jackie McLean – Demon’s Dance.

Thanks Jim

lots to look forward to there - and quite a few things I don't know which I can check out in the coming months.

First thoughts, I'd be pre-ordering the Andrew Hill, Sonny Clark, Wayne Shorter and Jackie McLean records and checking out the Tyner and Mobley records.

I ended up ordering a copy of the Konitz / Mulligan record. I know the feeling for many here was that it wasn't essential but, after streaming it and playing my dad's old 7" I started to find it immensely enjoyable.

I'm mostly interest in titles I don't have that are otherwise hard to come by on vinyl so Infinity, Schizophrenia and Demon's Dance for me for sure.

Definitely the Kenny Burrell and I only have Schizophrenia on CD. Probably 2 or 3 others but I will have to be selective. It'll be interesting to see what Chad has up his sleeve too.

Initial shopping list:

Andrew Hill – Dance With Death (Blue Note, 1968)
Freddie Hubbard – Blue Spirits (Blue Note, 1965)
Donald Byrd – Slow Drag (Blue Note, 1967)
McCoy Tyner – Time For Tyner (Blue Note, 1968)
Wayne Shorter – Schizophrenia (Blue Note, 1967)
Jackie McLean – Demon’s Dance (Blue Note, 1967)
McCoy Tyner – Extensions (Blue Note, 1970)

May be a couple more, but these look pretty much essential.

Skintness beckons.

If the 2023 TP schedule does not slip back again as 2022 did then Joe Harley has confirmed that the first two titless for January 2024 are Elvin Jones - ‘Poly-Currents’ and Lou Donaldson - ‘Midnight Creeper’ that would have ended the 2022 schedule and made up the 24 (two a month) releases.

Others that Joe has confirmed that he and Kevin have already mastered are:
  1. Andrew Hill - Grass Roots
  2. Bobby Hutcherson - Spiral and/or Medina
  3. Jackie McLean - Action
  4. Graham Moncur - Some Other Stuff
  5. Wayne Shorter - Odyssey of Iska
  6. Anthony Williams - Life Time
  7. Larry Young - Mothership
So these may be part of the 2024 schedule. Not sure what has happened Re Hutcherson’s - ‘Dialogue’ though. Rumours of problems with the master tape. For me that will be a real disappointment if it fails to happen.

Initial shopping list:

I think i'll be going down a similar road

After listening to this nearly all week on headphones, in the car and streaming , I ended up getting a copy which arrived today

My goodness, the difference in sound quality between those formats and the TP version
