Used to get up there a lot in my teens, staying at Glen Cottage in Torridon which was an independent hostel run by folk singers. Fantastic music every night. I remember digging a bottle dump in an old blackhouse in Shieldeg...this would be around 1973.

28 Oct 2022, Celebrity Eclipse, the second cruise ship to visit Wellington NZ - since March 2020 - approaches pilot pickup point at 0600hrs in Cook Strait outside Wellington Harbour. Wellington International Airport is in the foreground. At 317m and 122000 GT, she's a big one.

Post-Covid tourism is in tatters in NZ, after having shut itself off from the world in an attempt to control Covid. Tourism once provided circa 15% of GDP, NZ is very slowly rebuilding as we try to entice people back to visit. Alas for many businesses it's to little, too late. With a capacity of ~2900 passengers, in pre-Covid times we'd have seen the streets of the central business district clogged with happy tourists exploring, shopping, eating, spending. On Friday morning I saw few additional people on the streets, possibly put off by having to take an RAT before disembarking.

From the bridge over Aira Force - sadly the lower path skirting the plunge pool was closed due to damage from a collapsed tree. However, with the amount of rain Cumbria's been having, the amount of water falling made for a breathtaking sight and noise.
