Interesting article on Dr John

Got to see him a few times, but not in New Orleans (just missed him). He was fascinating live: you got captivated by him and his presence. Luckily I never seem to capture him on a bad day.

Buying his albums is a bit of a crapshoot though: some are truly excellent but quite a few are mediocre at best. I’ll certainly get the posthumous one though.

Can anyone recommend 10 great albums by Dr John? I haven't really listened to any past the first 8 ('68-'74) and 'Locked Down'.

‘City Lights’ from 1978 is a great album, but a bit of a decline until ‘Going back to New Orleans’ in 91: a top album but padded out in places. His ‘Duke Elegant’ (tribute to Ellington, obvs) is a good collection with a tight band. ‘Creole Moon’ a more recent decent album.

There are great tunes on most of his releases but if you buy the early and late period best of collections you have most bases covered.

Great moment at 0:34. Two real gentlemen.
I do know nothing about the background of this. I suppose the doctor needed the money.
