Many pleasant and interesting comments from both articles btl!

What a legend! And 103 is impressive. I get the feeling that the 40C+ heatwave earlier in the month would have been no comfort to him at all.

RIP Mr. Lovelock. May your work live on and inspire generations to come.

He also invented the electron capture detector which was used to detect CFC's and halogenated pesticides. Coupled to a gas/liquid chromatograph, it was capable of extremely low detection limits. I ran a laboratory where we were looking at pesticide levels in river water, and routinely measured levels around 1 ng/l (1 part of pesticide in a trillion parts of water). Without the electron capture detector, we would have been in the dark about halogenated contaminants for a lot longer.

That is a great age.

One of those influential people who has been on my radar since the 1970’s and yet, embarrassingly, I know little about him other than his Gaia theories.

RIP.

Yes, a remarkable man whose work more people should know and take heed from. He will be missed. Well worth reading his books, etc.

Time for a Gaia re-read I think. Great man, who's had a long and productive life, and I believe at least some of his ideas will gain more traction as we continue to irreversibly FU the planet.

RIP James,
