A thread to catalogue the eloquence, dignity, diplomacy and wisdom of Boris Johnson: V Gone-ish!

Another process point: if Johnson hasn’t been to see The Queen he hasn’t resigned.

He wouldn't until there was a new PM - interim or permanent. There has to be a PM.

He seems to have agreed the process with Brady so the attention turns to Starmer in the HoC now...

If you read the words, there is nothing about resigning or stepping down https://metro.co.uk/2022/07/07/bori...ter-standing-down-as-prime-minister-16960611/

'Resign' isn't even in the speech.

He's merely agreed to carry on "until a new leader is in place".

It's a childish bluff. I bet.

Compare, for example, to May's very clear: "So I am today announcing that I will resign as leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party on Friday 7 June so that a successor can be chosen."

Apparently, Boris the Delusional has said 'reports of my resignation have been greatly exaggerated...' *

(*not in so many words, obvs)

Penny 'Cock' Mordaunt? Hmmmmm...
Yes, I remember that too. Though Mordaunt was comprehensive school educated (nothing at all wrong with that) she comes over like she’s ‘to the manor born’; I’d speculate she’s been voice coached. Could have what it takes to win – looking and sounding the part being paramount.

That's if there's a vacancy. Cummings summed it up for me with his first tweet and since. No surprises were Johnson playing for time and plotting to stay where he is – tone of the lectern speech suggested no acceptance of failings. As for his claimed 14 million mandate, I'd also give due credit to Corbyn.

I thought it was interesting that he said 'that party' in reference to the tory party.

Perhaps he plans to resign the Tory whip and stay on as PM? Would that mean that the only way to get him out would be a VONC in the Commons leading to an Election, which the Tories would probably lose, so he basically gets to stay on until he's good and ready?

I'm afraid my knowledge of the legal niceties is limited to what generally happens.
