Whisky II

£20 more and you get their stunning 15YO... Worth bearing in mind IMO
Yes the "Hmm" was shorthand for "a bit overpriced that methinks".
You better grab the 15 if you can find it as I suspect the price is about to go up...the 12 is £48 at a lot of places and the new 8 is a signal to move the range up in price IMO...maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I picked up a bottle of Wire Works, the inaugural bottling from the White Peak distillery in Derbyshire for £50 at auction. It had sold out in a flash last February at its original retail price of £65. This means the flipper, after listing fees, transportation and delivery costs etc is well down. If a few more get their fingers burnt like this it might create a more level playing field for those of us who actually want to drink the bloody stuff at sensible prices.

Amazon have Clynelish 14 at a decent price at the moment. Indeed at £35 it could step neatly into the shoes that Arran 14 used to occupy in my roster.

I might up my order to a case.

Good find, another added to my Amazon 'whisky wish list'...

I'm down to 20 bottles now :D When I get to 15 I'll start to stock up again ;)

I was disappointed in my Clynelish 14. Generic. None of the famed waxiness and only a flash of marmalade.
Now sold out.
More along soon I'd guess...may be wrong but don't think Whisky Exchange, Royal Mile or House of Malt have "new released" it yet.

Edit: there's stock at Robbie's. No free postage though.

Will be interesting to try it then, my recollection is something outstanding but I cant recall what exactly.

I’m also starting to appreciate what you get from these Diageo blend fillers. For one they are cheap:)

But, certainly with Caol Ila, the lack of brashness and delicacy of the “dullness” Is quite refreshing.

Yes they are cheap and I suspect delicacy is not my strong suit so YMMV.

Cheers, but I wasn’t after one, just noting that Glenallachie seems to be becoming one of those distilleries whose releases are snapped up PDQ.

I recently opened a Craigellachie 14 yo from whiskybroker. Initially it was so peppery, burny and alcohol hot that I thought i would have to choke it down with a mixer or add it to something else but thankfully after some air it has settled down quite considerably and is very approachable. I hope it continues to get better. Perfectly fine sherry dram.

Clynelish arrived, I’m glad I can’t remember it’s predecessor clearly. Consensus seems to be that I should be disappointed.

In isolation however it’s lovely easy drinking stuff and quite interesting; sweet, citrus, and peppery in the mouth, some wax too. Still don’t understand the hint of ash in the finish without smoke at the start.

Well worth £35. Although in common with other Diageo standard bottlings I’ve tried it’s so easy and undemanding to drink that the the bottle will last no time at all.

That's good...I have an unopened bottle. Good vfm.

I have the same though haven’t opened it yet. Even my Springbank 15 isn’t great straight out of the bottle. It needs some air but more importantly a small splash of water..then it sings. I love the tunes we can play getting malt to taste great.
