Running these speakers grill on/grill off makes quite a considerable difference to their sound, mainly in the upper mid which sounds pretty strangled with them on.
I have no real reason for wanting to use them with grills on (either for aesthetics or driver protection) but it surprises me that a speaker manufacturer would sell a speaker with grills that comprise a speakers sound so much!

Maybe thats why the LS50 doesn't have any...perhaps.

The actual effect on the response is pretty mild, certainly less than the typical cloth covered frame. I measured about 2db variance at the top end.

Interesting... maybe my room dynamics are effecting it a bit more. There is certainly a noticeable difference to my ears. Mind you, db is non-linear...

Can't say I notice much of any difference between grilles on or off on mine.
