Anthony Wood RIP

As a student in London in the late 70s early 80s his activity was certainly appreciated. I remember attending quite a few Actual Music events and buying Incus and FMP LPs etc from Honest Jon’s due to his fanaticism. I even have a solo Roger Turner LP on CAW. Then there was the Wire.

RIP.

Sad news, The Wire is arguably the best music mag out there, I subscribed for several years. RIP.

I attended the '84 Actual gig at the Bloomsbury theatre, memory a bit hazy but remember Anthony Braxton playing solo sopranino. I subscribed to the Wire from issue 1 through to just over 200. Think I must have heard about it via a Radio3 jazz programme presented by Charles Fox. Anyway sad to hear about Anthony.

I went a This Heat gig that was part of an Actual festival, so he deserves much credit for that. The Wire was a very useful magazine for a long time, but I gave up when the articles started to "recontextualise notions of alterity". That was quite a while after Anthony Wood had left.
