Post Covid Gigs?

We went to quite a lot of shows during the last 18 months, but went to the opening night of the new season at Covent Garden a couple of weeks ago, the first show there since March 2020 with no restrictions. New artistic director, new production of Rigoletto, fabulous performance from Lisette Oropesa, a much anticipated return since she raised the roof as Lucia in 2017.

Yay, first gig in over 18 months lined up for next month. Chemtrails, and at my local community centre too.

Just grabbed tickets for Working Mens Club in Southampton at the start of November.

Went to the first Scaledown to take place for 19 months last Friday - and a good mix it was too

Entry is free, but there will be a collection for performers, who are as follows:
Atsuko Kamura: aka Kamura Obscura, is a Japanese agit-femme vocalist and electronic experimentalist. She is a former member of the seminal avant grade ensemble Frank Chickens, and of Mizutama Shobodan (Polka Dot Fire Brigade), the first Japanese feminist punk band. Her voice-modulated improvisations and eco-surrealist chansons are weaved into a bizarre world of experimental sonics and inventions.)
the closer we are to dying: A creative project for Terry Lane to process emotionally-driven, thought-provoking and intense music. He will be performing a track from a forthcoming release of songs inspired by Willam Blake.
Pete Evans: Always a firm favourite of scaledown central, Pete's unique songs and voice return to tickle your ears
David Herbert: Geniune and skillful songwriting and guitar playing, with warmth and intelligence.
sourmilk: An ongoing exploration the interaction of neurology and the metropolis using improvised electronic soundscapes, modular synthesis and field recordings.
Schroeder/Smith: Bettina Schroeder and James A Smith present the listener with an intriguing cocktail of spoken word and music. The sounds generated by Smith’s guitar illustrate and enhance their prose-poetry narratives. The pair also will introduce new tracks from the forthcoming album ROAD TO HEAVEN by James’ band the BEACH BULLIES with James on guitar and vocals and Schroeder’s electric ukulele.

Just added Pictish Trail in Guildford next Feb, after loving his new single

There's an excellent remix by Django Django as well.

Next up is the Nightingales gig at the Lexington on Wednesday (3rd) - Tonje can't make it so I have a spare ticket if anyone is interested.

Not sure whether to go to see Japanese Television at the Lexington on Thursday or Mandrake Handshake at the Sebright on Saturday. There was a time when it would have been both.

I'm off to the dead daisy's at Norwich waterfront in a couple of days

There supported by the quireboys too

Should be a good night!!

The missus and I drove to Cardiff to see This Is The Kit in on Tuesday night, my first live event since the start of the pandemic. Absolutely brilliant, fantastic band and generally fab evening. We had to show the NHS online covid pass to be able to get into the venue, and they were checking everyone who came in - if you didn't have proof of vaccination then you couldn't come in.

We'd originally booked to see Nick Cave there 18 months ago but that got rescheduled and then cancelled altogether, but the hotel had been reluctant to offer a refund and kept offering for us to shift to different dates. So we'd eventually just looked to see which bands we liked were playing in Cardiff and moved the hotel booking to match.

Went to see the Neil Angilley Trio at Peggy's Skylight in Nottingham last night. A tremendous jazz three-piece.

Peggy's is a great little club, serving fabulous Middle-Eastern tapas food. Cosy atmosphere, great sound, lovely vibe. It's well worth a visit if you're ever in Nottingham.

Went to see the devout at the Cluny, a depeche mode tribute band, must admit they were excellent. Would recommend

Went to see Fadcinating Aida at the RNCM on Friday night.
Thoroughly enjoyed the show BUT despite the RNCM web page going large about covid requirements the checks were useless.
Three blokes stood outside as I flashed my NHS covid status on my phone. They glanced at it from two metres away and waived me in. No scanners, no nothing.
The people in front of me were allowed in by showing their vaccination card and a bloke with them got in by saying he had his booster that day!

A club night, rather than a gig; but have just grabbed tickets for A Love From Outer Space at Phonox next February - silver ravers unite!

Field Day, Weyfest and End of the Road festivals Late August / start September, so hopefully OK
Rock Against Racism celebration in Brighton postponed from March 2020 to September 2020 to April 2021 to October 2021 - Misty in Roots, Ruts, Members, can't wait!

RaR now October 2022, must be some kind of record!
