Gas and Electricity Prices

I think yours is the first post I can relate to Matt as the quoting of monthly cost is a bit academic. I always look at average annual KWH consumption and tariffs and napkin maths. In my case electricity is about 6000kwh annual, 500kwh monthly and gas is about 15000kwh annual with huge difference across the months (gas heating).

One mate has told me he has reduced his elec usage from 600kwh to 300kwh monthly and found the point of parasitic load to be about 150w per hour with everything he sensibly can switched off when testing.

What was that snippet that Russia is behind the bump in energy prices in Europe ?
Reminding all and sundry not to criticise his 'election' too loudly ?

Wasn’t it Wednesday that the UK,USA & Australia announced a sub agreement the same day France has a fire and our energy prices go up.

Seems they’re going to drop like flies.

Green energy is costing a fortune. I’m surprised they haven’t introduced energy price bands with lower prices for lower consumption. If you use over certain thresholds, you pay an additional tariff per unit to pay for the green stuff. In other words, high energy consumers pay more. There is a cost of living crisis about to hit this winter with the high inflation we are seeing in food and energy.

This energy business is getting both sillier and more serious by the day. Soon, the only way to live with energy costs is to have blackouts and live on cold food and drink as well as dress like the Michelin man. Stone Age, anyone? I gather we do at least have recourse to Norwegian gas, but that's unlikely to affect prices.

Good news I suppose for the owners of the remaining coal fired plants, I guess they'll be raking it in on the back of low wind conditions. I bet they can name their price.

In my part of the UK, I've been following the construction of The Viking Link as it comes ashore (just up the road from me) and snakes inland. Very impressive engineering. Essentially a method for the UK to exchange electrical energy with Denmark. With ever increasing demand and an energy source that varies in output (wind), together with no efficient method of storing electrical energy, these initiatives make a deal of sense

We're with People's Energy - they emailed on Friday to say they had ceased trading - so waiting to see who we get landed with before looking at switching. They had warned us of a possible 25% increase in DD for the winter back in June. We had been paying just under £100 a month for dual fuel and currently in credit. An increase in costs is going to hit us hard, my wife hasn't worked since losing her job in August 20, long covid and other medical issues means she's not fit to work at present. Not entitled to universal credit either so we've had about £300 a month for food and other living expenses after mortgage and bills. I'm about to lose the extra £100 a month I've been getting for covering someone's maternity leave.
One lot we'll be steering clear of is Bulb, they had set what seemed a very high proposed DD for my Mum's small retirement flat and have been chasing my sister to ask why no debit has been set up. This despite having been informed several times that my mum died in April (the power is off in the flat) and to contact the solicitors dealing with her estate.

I switched from E On (npower before that but E On bought npower) a month or so back and went to Out Fox the Market, give it a go I saved a fair bit

I switched to Octopus 2 yr fixed deal a couple of months ago and offered the £50/50 link to fishies but got zero takers, that deal is now £10/month more expensive-snooze n loose.
