A thread to catalogue the eloquence, dignity, diplomacy and wisdom of Boris Johnson

Fraser Nelson and the other groupies at The Spectator are normally hanging out of Boris. Perhaps he’s come not to bury him but politely warn him because the red wall floaters are about to start paddling in the opposite direction and Johnson is really only of use to The Spectator’s owner inside No.10.

We need to pump ever more money into the NHS as it is inefficient on the financial side, too many top management/consultants on big money and the increase in using private companies.

Meanwhile back in the global strategy swamp, a Lords Committee has this to say. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...e-strategic-void-on-china-to-prioritise-trade
Boris Johnson has been accused of avoiding a clear strategy on China for fear it will force him to make difficult decisions that put human rights ahead of enhanced trade with the world’s second largest economy.

The allegation of a “strategic void” is made in a major report on the future of UK-China relations by the House of Lords’ international and defence select committee.

It warns that given the trajectory of China’s global ambitions, the UK must be prepared for a “potentially long and severe period of disruption in its trade and political relations with China”. The Conservative-chaired committee warns this new realism about China and its goals requires a depth of understanding of the country across the UK government that is currently lacking.

The report, full of insight from former ministers and defence chiefs, points to “inconsistencies, uncertainty and lack of a central strategy” in UK government relations with China.

It says: “There is no clear sense of what the current government’s strategy towards China is, or what values and interests it is trying to uphold in the UK-China relationship.”

You wonder who it is inside the FCO that’s providing the ammunition for now the second negative briefing ( after Raab) against this Cabinet?
Johnson, his ex- hatchet man Cummings and his underperforming ministers have made many enemies in Whitehall.

I think we should pull out of the NHS, and start our own. We can do it much better. Oh

I read your second sentence as “underperforming mistresses”. :D Mine is probably more accurate. Btw, what did happen to the violinist?

What is the collective noun for hooray henrys? There were a lot in that room. And it shows what they (including Johnson) really think. No surprise really, but occasionally you need a reminder to see how effed up this country really is.

There's more detail in the freely available Guardian, and reaction from other politicians. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...coming-saudi-arabia-of-penal-policy-condemned
He went on to joke about the UK becoming the “Saudi Arabia of penal policy” under Patel as part of comments about work on renewable energy. “I said last year we’re the Saudi Arabia of wind. Probably the Saudi Arabia of penal policy, under our wonderful home secretary,” Johnson said.

Saudi Arabia is one of the most punitive regimes in the world. It is one of the few remaining countries to carry out capital punishment by beheading and has long been accused of grave human rights abuses, including the torture of activists. It can impose the death penalty for homosexuality and many drug offences.

Patel has previously indicated her support for the death penalty as a “deterrent” for serious crime, though she has since denied this and suggested she is not an “active supporter” of the policy.

And Flashman doesn’t like his after dinner entertainment being interrupted by impertinent little misses,

Jeez, there’s not many people less suited to the roll of foreign secretary than Raab but Johnson has found one in Liz Truss. My MP and as thick as pig shit!
According to James Landale on the BBC rolling coverage:
Liz Truss now becomes - after Margaret Beckett - only the second woman to hold the role of foreign secretary.

As a former trade minister, she is a known figure on the international diplomatic circuit, having negotiated trade deals that had to be replaced after Brexit.

She will bring some character - even panache - to a job that often requires a bit of human diplomacy.

Being thick is entirely useful to Boris as she'll just do what he tells her to do, especially foreign policy where he previously "excelled"

Nadine Dorries - Culture Secretary. It’s the end of the ****ing world.
She makes Liz Truss look capable and that’s not easy.

A circle jerk?
