Are your lens rubbers turning white ?

I was going to contact Canon and ask if you could buy new ones ??
But wait , Hold the front page, A moment of inspiration or stupidity

I have one of these ( Old toothbrush )
and some of this ( Shoe polish )

I wouldn’t use silicone on a lens, it’s impossible to clean off so get it on the glass or contacts and you are in a whole world of pain.

Shoe polish is wax based so white sprit will remove it.

No sorry! I meant the lens ‘rubbers’ might be made from a silicon blend? My bad use of English:)
 
I once had the red ring on a 24-105 split in two and fall off. Being clever, I found some super glue and repaired it. Only to find the next day that the focus ring wouldn't move.

No No No , It's a sort of cream / putty colour
 
The rubber on my binoculars went white too. The manufacturer suggested rubbing alcohol ... I bought some but haven't tried applying it yet.
