Rather disappointing..

You can still return it easily, eBay wont care!

I can't believe you are even contemplating keeping it to be honest, its just a box of electronics, there will be another!

Have they even responded to your emails yet?

Not a word.

Shocking.

Just send it back and use the money to find another. You could of course go in for a 'partial refund', as they will sure as heck respond when you open a return case, as the money gets pulled from their back account back into eBays (as they will be on ebay Managed Payments) in escrow. They have the option to offer a partial refund, unless they have it set up for auto returns, in which case, you'll just get the returns label to take it to the Post Office.

One possibility.. if the dealer feels the couriers are responsible the usual procedure is.. they will register a claim against the courier via the original consignment insurance. IF that happens the courier will insist on collecting the goods from you to assess condition of the two units and the suitability of the packaging. I'm not sure how that ties in with ebay return procedures.

I agree, no reply is a poor show and very surprising given the effect of negative ebay feedback.

If you bought and paid via eBay/PayPal then that is your return/refund process. Too risky to go outside of that on items of this value IMHO.

It holds no relevance at all.

The courier has nothing to do with this at all and Ive never known a courier doing that these days, and I ship about 30 parcels a week with various couriers.

The claim comes from the company to the courier, with photographs and any additional relevant information, the customer dosent need to be involved in any of this at all. If they 'want' to be, sure they can offer that, but I wouldn't. Who knows how long a courier will take to fight out the claim for 2.5K.

Its also likely it wont be insured. A lot of firms don't insure their items. Peter Tyson explained this to me, they worked out that with the extortionate cost of insurance of hifi gear and finding a carrier that will actually insure it, it was still financially better off for them to send out everything out without insurance and just absorb the cost of the the odd one that came back damaged.

That was my experience with insurance for the stuff I send out for my company. One year UPS lost £1700 worth of lamps (ex VAT). My local driver said that they they were unlikely to have gone missing by accident. But that aside, the cost to insure everything would have cost many times more than the losses. One-off Ebay sales of great value or rarity, I insure.

Even highly regarded companies wil occasionally pack items in a ridiculous fashion. I send a mint condition Mk1 Leak Trough line Tuner to a respected specialist company for a repair. They sent it back wrapped in numerous multiple layers of bubble wrap but totally unboxed. Needless to say the plastic front panel was smashed. They took care of the insurance claim against the courier, who oddly enough paid up.

I'm waiting to see if there is a response to the reviews. Once they see them, they will know that there is no hope of a resale if the items are returned. That might persuade them to offer a partial refund.

That's outrageous! Packing something so that it would survive only if handled unreasonably carefully and blaming the courier if it doesn't.

I don't think 'persuasion' comes into it. The seller has a responsibility to sort this out but you really need to go through the ebay process.
