System Pics 2021

Thank you. My end system I think (though those pics of a P8 and Aetheos do make me wonder...), I'm very content with it. I love the looks of the Elicit Mkii, which I bought to match the Saturn. I do prefer it to the current style of the Elicit-r and Saturn-r, though I did persuade my dealer to get both so that I could hear the Saturn-r. He loved them. I think the Elicit Mkii doesn't get the love that the -r version does and whilst I've heard both I've never listened to them side-by-side so I don't really know how much difference there is between them. The Elicit was a big step up from my previous Mira3.

I also have a Saturn and a latest generation Cursa3/Maia3 combo, all with matching metal faceplates (pics when I find the time!). I think the Elicit Mkii is on par with the Cursa/Maia combo. Now, all we both need is find a 1st generation Rega Ios phonostage to perfectly match our systems! They are as rare as hen's teeth, though...

End-game Rega set! You are a lucky man!

I am indeed, and hopefully most of this will see me through for many years to come. If I come across a cheap Aphelion 2 cart I will pick that up at some point, but other than that the Rega kit is 'end-game'.

The Boenickes are amazing little speakers, but at some point when I have a dedicated room (and don't have my landlord living below me) I will get some floorstanders. I always wanted to try a pair of FACT8 or FACT12s with Rega kit, and also wanted to buy some Rega R9s on here last year, but they'd gone before I got back to UK. Maybe someday I'll try those or RS10s to see how the Rega synergy is!

I've also been so impressed with the Boenickes that I've started reading up on their big brothers, the W8 and W11s. Will add them to the fantasy shopping list!

Debating whether to keep experimenting on the digital side of things, or to be happy with what I've got. I wanted to upgrade from the Rega DAC to a Chord Qutest, but read lots about the RME being better and cheaper. It sounds great, but can't help feeling a lot of the functionality is lost on me - not interested in setting up different profiles, tweaking settings etc (hence my love of Rega!), so maybe the Qutest would have been better for my plug n play tastes.

Current system as of today (carpet still pending!). Really enjoying things even more since I finished rebuilding the Leak Stereo 20. Gels surprisingly well with the modern take on the Wharfedale speakers! It's been nearly two months and am not missing having a turntable..... yet! ;)

Regarding the Collaro mat, do you use it on top of the P8’s original felt mat or as a replacement?

What’s the difference between the red and white Collaro, is one thicker than the other? I’m aware that the white one is more for idler/vintage decks but not sure why and I’m considering one for my TD124.
I use the red Collaro mat instead of the stock mat. I found it to be an improvement, although a small one.

The white Collaro mat is thicker and heavier, and is designed to stop the platter of older idlers from ringing. It performs a similar function to the heavy rubber mats but sounds much better. I tried a lot of mats on my PTP but found the white Collaro to be the best overall.

Thanks a lot for the information. I got the red one to try on my P8, still evaluating it but I’m not too keen on it coming off each time I remove the LP.

I know you are not missing your turntable but to me that Leak looks lonely and lost without a turntable next to it.

I have the same issue, but it is not much worse in that respect than the stock mat, and does sound a bit better IMO.

The white Collaro mat is heavy enough that it never comes off with the record.

Nice looking set up. Love that Leak! Nice table too, is it bespoke? What do you think of the Warfedales, Denton 85s if I'm not mistaken? I've heard good reports of the Heritage series and I've been tempted by the LIntons.

No it was from Oak Furniture Land IIRC. Not built very well to be honest, cracks are appearing in a few of the joints. Really very impressed with the Denton 85s. Nice build, and they have a full weighty sound, though slightly hot in the treble with solid state amps. Apparently that can be solved with a resistor between the wire links, but I'm perfectly happy with them as-is to be honest. Was a bit concerned how the Leak would work with them, but it seems to be a great marriage! One day I'll be able to afford a pair of LS3/5A speakers, but for not very happy with the Dentons, and they look the spit of my parent's original Denton 2s! :)

Strangely enough, only this morning I’ve discovered that if I lift off the LP very slowly, whilst the platter is still turning(I never stop it whilst having a session) then the mat seems to stay where it is.

I had the same issue with the sticking felt mat, although it did seem to be getting slightly better after a weeks. By that point I was annoyed enough to have ordered the TEAC washi mat, which doesn't lift or stick.

It is yes. I like it a lot. Small, heavy and packs a punch. I listen at 75-80dB tops and at that level it does reach 20Hz in my room. It seems very unfussy and easy to integrate. Both due to the 5 EQ settings and the KEF Connect app for the speakers that also controls the sub. It's fast and nible yet powerful - at least for music listening. Using the LFE setting on the sub I had some issues where the sub would go to sleep randomly or simply not want to turn on. Remedied by using the manual setting instead and adjusting accordingly on the sub.

As explained by a KEF specialist over at Roon forums. Hopefully something they can fix with a Connect firmware update (along with some other issues people are having) but it works flawlessly now.

Thanks, I was put off the old ones due to the App issues being widely reported hope they get these niggles ironed out quickly, looks a fab 2.1, have ProAc 115/REL T7 at present in the office.

The Connect app for the wireless II's is generally very good. Was starting wondering if I should have gotten a T/7x or 9x when the KEF sub was causing issues but not now. The size is just right.
