Tone Poet Blue Notes

I picked up “One Flight Up” this morning. “Passing Ships” was arriving at my local store this afternoon (apparently stock arrived late at Universal) so I’ll collect it tomorrow (hopefully).

Hopefully my Blue Note store order will ship soon, I think One Flight Up and Passing Ships were the ‘hold’ point (the other being Tone Poem, which seems to exist).

The Blue Note Store is saying both Passing Ships and One Flight Up in the more stock coming soon category which doesn't bode well.

Hmmm be interesting to see how many Passing Ships orders are fulfilled. I’m hearing bad things…

Given that, like others, put my order in just under 2 months ago I wonder if they've prioritised non sale customers? There can't have been that many queued up behind us....

What I’ve been told is…there will be only a 100 copies of any TP title for sale in the UK (“because of Brexit”) and each shop will be limited to 2 copies each. Amazon however can source from Europe…
We will see how this pans out…

Ricky, where did that info come from? I would have thought it strange if Brexit had something to do with it as the Tone Poets are pressed by RTI in their US plant, the covers are made by Stoughton their and they are shipped from the states to the UK and Europe. If the UK only gets a hundred copies I sure demand well exceeds that supply her and each small dealer would probably only get a couple of copies each.

Blue Note Classic is more likely to be effected by Brexit as they are pressed by Optimal with metal work shipped from the US.

I don't doubt that overall numbers are being limited due to the backed up demand at all pressing plants, especially RTI, and that may have limited pressing runs being limited for any individual release. Bigger selling artist are probably going to be given priority by record companies over specialist music like Tone Poet reissues

Info from my record dealer, Poco. Said he had to “beg” to get 3 copies of each title as he has 3 customers (incl moi) who he tries to get every title for. I guess this is all pretty new as these restrictions will only have kicked in early this year and TP production has been much delayed anyway…as I say…let’s see how this goes….

Ricky thanks for the reply. I was editing my post a bit to clarify further when you did. Let's see how it goes. I hope two arrive on Tuesday though. :)

Here’s a bit more from him “Blue note got stung with huge Brexit fees in January so now they are selling 90% of stock into Europe and the U.K. gets the dregs basically.”

I'm still confused as to how things would have changed if they are shipped straight to the UK. If they are / we're all always shipped to Europe and then onto the UK then it would be a problem. But with the Classic Blue Notes (always shipped from Europe) they just seem to have moved the price up a bit to compensate. Still not meeting demand though even in the states because of what I said earlier.
If anyone cannot get Passing Ships at a good price it is available for £40.05 + £1.26 postage via All Your Music on Amazon UK.

That explains why on Amazon you can get copies of BN Classics shipped from Germany but not from any UK supplier.

I've emailed Blue Note Store today to get an update: I'll let you know what they say.

I was a bit concerned as the Charles Lloyd and John Scofield records I pre-ordered came on the day of release - that was post Brexit but they may have changed supply lines in light of their experiences with releases since January.

I've been picking up similar issues about supply lines from people I know who work in the building trade. Things like timber and cement are in short supply. That's exactly the type of thing opposition politicians should be shouting about to puncture the post Brexit feelgood bubble.

Talking of Blue Note my brightly coloured orange/blue GoGo Penguin RMX remix album turned up today. Jazz needs bleeps, obvs.

I've just had delivery of a copy of Something Else ( BN Classic) from Germany via Amazon market place that was as well packaged as anything I've ordered ( thick card box, free plastic sleeve with an extra 12" of cardboard sheet in to prevent the sleeve bending) and it came 3 days quicker than promised via Royal Mail. This is out of stock everywhere in the UK and I just missed the boat for pre orders.

If the post Brexit context is going to be a barrier to getting records I want from UK suppliers this may be a route I go down more often.

One thing I’ve noticed post Brexit is a lot of sellers seem to be shipping with very low declared values (without being asked to do so). I’ve not had a customs charge on anything for a while now. I assume all the new Tory bureaucracy and red-tape is just too much for a lot of sellers to be arsed engaging with. I’ll not name any sellers or international shops and I suggest others don’t either, but I’ve certainly had substantive vinyl orders and other items arrive without any hint of a charge.

Got my One Flight Up today from Amazon. It really is fantastic: one track in and already one of my favourites from the TP/80/Classics series.
