In North Herefordshire [at least in my area] the only vote was for Police Commissioner.
I always vote, even when I know that the system is weighed against me by the local trend and first past the post.
So I duly rode the old Carlton up the steep bank to my poling station at a rural primary school.
Did the usual, hand-sanitiser, mask, ... brought my own pencils and so on. The outside steward watched over the bike. [Should have taken a photo in the lovely sunshine, if cold with the wind].
On seeing the candidates on the ballot paper, I realised that I could not actually vote for any of them, so I posted it blank.
The choices were: Conservative, Lib Dem, Labour or Independent. No acceptable candidate standing for my vote ... Not going to comment, beyond that if a true independent wanted my vote, I would need to be able read what their ideals and policies were. No such luck. I had hoped for a Green candidate, but sadly ... Of course the possible Green would have never won, but it would have allowed me to actually vote in a way I think is positive. An indication of a minority view in these parts.
Am I disappointed? Yes, just a little.
Am I pleased I bothered to attend the poling station? Yes. A spoiled ballot is a statement.
Your thoughts. I am not asking anyone to say how they voted or would have voted if they did not.
Best wishes from George
