Shirley Williams dies aged 90

I had a student Christmas job in Mount Pleasant sorting office, Liverpool. I noticed a lady approaching and genuinely inquired of a mate if it was his Mum dropping in for a natter.
It was in fact a very down to earth and chatty Shirley Williams popping in to see how the P.O. coped at the busiest time of year.

I remember much talk about the MP John Smith after his death as being the greatest PM we never had.

Aye and there would never have been a war in Iraq and labour would never have been wiped out in Scotland however he would have been able to become prime minister if he’d lived.

Met her at Stansted airport once. She was very open for a chat while waiting to jet off to a conference. She had a knack for seeing both sides of any story. Is that centrist or liberal?
