It also has the AR-60 stylin going on - very neat looking thang
I can vouch for that!!And I think that comes from a very good integrated amp with built in DAC.
I had the DSP6000s and they fared very well against the likes of ATC SCM50’s which were 10k more than the 6000s
Its also a opportunity to think about your carbon footprint/energy usage.
Interesting thread and lots of comments I can sympathize with.
Here are mine, in no particular order:
To the OP, out of interest: what's your system? ca. 100k UKP will get you an impressive system, regardless of what your current attitude towards it is.
- I currently own a 40k-ish system (UKP) and sometimes think about downgrading as well, as the amount involved makes me bit nauseous from time to time. It's also a burden to drag around in life and worry about if I am being honest (as someone having otherwise strong minimalist leanings) - "The things you own end up owning you."
- The obvious thing regarding downgrading for me would be to fuse the Accuphase pre, power amp and DAC into an integrated amp. I wouldn't touch the Whest phono pre, as this sounded significantly better than the Accuphase phono card. (Unfortunately I can't say the same thing about the Accuphase DAC vs. the DAC card)
- I agree with those who said that streamer tech should stay out of expensive HiFi gear - a DAC is OK IMO but ideally should be replaceable (as with Accuphase) but I'd draw the line with everything involving something wireless and/or network related. As for streaming, I can recommend a Raspberry Pi 4 running volumio.
- I read "goodbye things" from Fumio Sasaki and I enjoyed it. He certainly takes it to an extreme, but it's a worthwhile read IMO. I also think this is very good, and much shorter: https://www.youhavetoomuchshit.com/download/You_Have_Too_Much_Shit.pdf
