You may have seen the Silestone cabinets I made last year for my Cheviots. They are 100L, totally unique and sound great.
To scratch an itch I bought a pair of Audio Note Js a few months ago, which I thought I would prefer. But to my surprise, it was a no brainer and I knew pretty much straight away that the Tannoys were staying.
Well the Lockdown boredom continued and curiosity got the better of me and I decided to make some larger, 120L ply cabinets.
The construction is 18mm birch ply, with the front, top and bottom laminated with 12mm Mdf.
Paul at RFC and Frank of this parish have been very helpful with their advice, thank you.
My favourite speaker is still the Devore, so the design is pretty much as the Silestone ones. The baffle is face fixed with the exposed edge of the Ply left unfinished.
Only other difference is two ports too the Silestone’s One.
A lot of thought went into the veneers. I originally planned more traditional book matched designs (Devore inspired) but decided on something that fitted the decor of the room as opposed to what a traditional speaker might look like.
I should come clean here, I haven’t made these!
My mate and colleague Dave who is a superb cabinet maker is responsible. So although these are a self build the fit and finish will probably surpass a lot of high end speakers.
The first coat of lacquer was applied this morning, so the pics below are wet.
Fingers crossed I should have them set up at home by mid week.
All that and I still don’t know how to add pictures.
