2N5484 and 2N5486 equivalents?

Mike P

Trade: Pickwell Audio
I'm in the process of building a PPA-V2 headphone amp and the part list calls for 3x 2N5484 and 3x 2N5486.

I can't find them anywhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction for suitable equivalents?

They're being used as cascode JFETS for biasing the opamps into class A.

I need them to be TO-92

Thanks!

You may well need to get them in SMD form and solder wires to them to use them. It is the curse of "progress"!

Lots of alternatives exist but fets vary so much from one sample to another that this can be more important than them being the "correct" type.

You do not need to cascode current sources for that purpose BTW. A total waste of time...

Your simplest solution would be to buy in "CRD's" current regulator diodes, which internally are a standard fet current source. They are available pre selected for specific currents.

I like Arkless reply - I'd just drop in an ATC Semitec CRD from Rapid electronics. 2mA selection would be about right for the constant-current loading of the opamp, in place of the whole jfet cascode.

Crinklewood have 2N5484 but not 2N5486.

Plenty of 2N5486 on ebay but no way of telling if they're genuine or not.
