Trump Part 20

Trump isn’t the big problem the machinery of what got him there is... the same machinery you think is going to set you free of him — do any of you see this?

Tell us, the unwashed masses, more of your tête-à-tête with the burning bush on the mountaintop.

Neither.

Trump isn’t the big problem the machinery of what got him there is... the same machinery you think is going to set you free of him — do any of you see this?

So you don't think Trump had any agency in his rise to office, it was all this 'machinery' at work?

Well, kinda-sorta. But it's like saying 'there's no point voting for Attlee; it'll only lead to 13 years of Tory misrule'.

He was the perfect (s)tool. Brazen, outspoken, obnoxious, rude, lying, self-made, famous, TV-star, white, male, racist, bigot, populist... Many people either identify with his character/posture or wannabee.
Some even thought that being a "successful" businessperson gave him the right skills for governing the nation...

I don't think that he should be given any credit for getting where he got, all he had to do was "play" himself. A free-wheelin' puppet fool. Pinocchio?

He wasn't even that. A line of attack that has been used too little imo. Entitled brat given a vast fortune that he quickly turned into less of one. Even losing money owning a casino and now in hock to foreigners, mainly US adversaries - great job, what a patriot.

A ten-minute interview with Rick Bright, the scientist who used to director the office involved in developing a coronavirus vaccine.

Tl;dr: The Trump administration’s response to COVID-19 is criminally negligent.

Joe

That man is very convincing. Hopefully T time is up soon.

I agree.

Unfortunately it's not the actual actions and results that matter to the electorate but the image that has been sold to them, and the opullence.
Our society has been trained to worship people who display wealth and social success, more so if their plain-n-vulgar (football players, rappers and pop singers, reality-show stars)... Tabloid staple.

Nice quip from Fintan O'Toole in this morning's Irish Times, parodying the words of Jesus in John 15:13::

Greater self-love hath no man than that he lay down his fans for his own interests.

Neither.

So you need to change the machinery. But I think you need to ask yourself: Is that more or less likely to be possible under Trump or Biden? Even if you think Biden isn't the man for the job (and I'd agree), Biden is the man who can help create the conditions so the man for the job is electable in a few years.

Tactics vs strategy. Biden is tactics.

Decent people sitting on their hands rather than voting is what brought us Trump, and the current Tory establishment in the UK.

Do what you want. It’s not going to improve matters much: two rapey old establishment men. One backed up by a ****ing ex-cop, the other by a zombie Jesus freak. Great. I’d hold my nose.

To quote the Doctor:

"Sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones, but you still have to choose."

I know which one I'd choose.

Enough with the false dichotomies. I never said don’t vote I said ‘hold your nose while voting’. I can’t believe someone asked me if I preferred the fast lane or the slow lane to fascism, and that sums liberal/centrist thinking nicely; a lot of ppl are perfectly happy with that — just as it’s not Trump.

Yes, his administration has had a sustained attack that made it feel deeply personal these past 4 years, especially after 8 years of opening up and being less afraid to be who we are under Obama — now the Trump administration emboldened and funded right wing global disinformation attacks and tried to weaponise our existence in a nonexistent culture war. It’s radicalised a lot of my ppl, so rollbacks of only those Trump’s executive orders will be personally welcome & reason enough to go out and vote the **** out, but so much of what needs doing is beyond what voting for white saviours can achieve. Politics is slow, it favours particular groups and we’re already out of time on a lot of issues now.

I must have missed your answer to the current problem with the US system*. The one that doesn't involve poverty and death on a large scale while the change is happening. Please direct me to the post(s) where you detailed this.
*And world system, of course.

I don’t think any solution is possible without first giving back the land to the remaining tribes and representatives of the 1st nation & indigenous peoples it was stolen from & spending our trillions of capital and wealth on restoring the land, the environment & making reparations & ensuring they have no impediments to future land stewardship.

As opposed to the poverty and death that has and is occurring while the status quo is maintained/entrenched. Why is it incumbent upon on the poor and dying to ensure that those who are not doing so are unaffected by any social/economic revolution? The latter group (us) haven't given much of a monkey's toss for the former, historically or currently.

I think these are parked in Chelsea, near The Thames. They're just down the road from a former doss-house where the very first UK Narcotics Anomymous meeting took place in 1983.

Strange world. Nice cars owened by somebody with a bit of a sense of humour.

"Donald Trump was on the phone, and he was talking about dying. It was Saturday, October 3, and while his doctor had told the outside world that the president’s symptoms were nothing to worry about, Trump, cocooned in his suite at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, was telling those close to him something very different.

“I could be one of the diers,” he said."
