Nakamichi servicing

I'm sure that this has been asked before but I am desperate!!!

Is there anywhere or anyone fairly close to me (geographically) that can service my Nak CR5e??

I'm near Southampton.

Apart from a rewind issue, the forward drive is now playing up and it really does need a good looking at!!

I've tried to phone B&W on several occasions with no reply.

Many thanks

There's a thread of here recently regarding tape decks, I think I read that B&W no longer service Naks, probably best to try on the Tapeheads forum?

The closure of the B&W shop in Worthing is going to leave a massive hole for us Nakamichi owners. There are quite a few dealers on the internet that will service Nakamichi decks, but they are an unknow quantity at this point in time.

B&W have closed their Nakamichi service shop, all spares and testing equipment have been disposed of.
Paul Wilkins sent me an email intimating this: N.B. disposing in this case means sold on, to whom I do not know, but certainly not trashed.

In Holland, Norman van Wijnen is the Nakamichi specialist used and recommended by many over at Tapeheads.
If that’s too far and risky maybe wait to see if anyone fills the void?

Perhaps someone could help over at Tapeheads.

Hi there and thanks for your enquiry
We are closed at the moment due to government guidelines
Even after the restrictions are lifted, with the current backlog of decks we have here, it is unlikely that we will be able to accept any further decks back until around September/October time.
Perhaps you could contact us again then.
Kind Regards

Paul

I send an email to B&W on 06June last asking about Nak servicing and received the above reply.

Well, the shops definitely closed, but it's good news if B&W are going to continue servicing Nakamichi tape decks!

The news of B&W closing dates from end of June.

www.tapeheads.net is indeed the place to go for help. There will likely be a few more hobbyists standing up to fill the gap, but honestly, their summed capacity is unlikely to match B&W's bandwidth. Servicing these machines can suck up a lot of hours. It might well be useful for any owner to learn how to repair simple transport issues themselves. The Sankyo-based machines (BX, CR, CD, DR) are fairly easy.

If you could get it up to the midlands my mate could probably sort it out, as he in his spare time, does this sort off thing. Just fixed one actually, but he does prefer reel to reels to mess with.
As long as you can still get the bits, he could fix it.
