Early October beach holiday

I'm struggling, all the exotic places seem to have have risk of rain and storms in October, and all the med places have the risk of being cold. The best I can find for 2 of us on a medium haul flight of up to 8 hours (we will only go for a week) is Cyprus.

Any suggestions?

I'm happy to spend, but I'm not paying 5 grand for a rainy or cloudy beach holiday.

I go to Greece, to Kalymnos, a small island near Kos, fairly often in October for climbing. It's generally only in November that the weather deteriorates. Even in October the crags can be too hot in the afternoon and you need to get on them before the sun swings round. So Kos might suit. No guarantees however, you get the odd blowy and cool day. It's not Spain in July.

Thanks, so Cyprus should be hot in the day, being closer to Arabia than Greece.

I'd excluded DUbai as I am not sure 5 grand will get me the full luxury I am hoping for? I can just about get a private plunge pool on the room terrace in some places at this price.

you didn't mention luxury. Anyway Dubai is a boring dump...

How about Ghana? A hidden gem of a place.

or Mombasa.

Zanzibar might be a bit too rainy. Mauritius, Seychelles and Maldives too wet in Oct.

how about Kerala, monsoon should have finished by then. Maybe flight too long

27 during the day, about 16 at night possibly lower. My mate who lives there says you can get rain in Oct. He also warns that many shops and restaurants start to shut in October for the winter. A few stay open to serve locals. Although early oct should be ok

he tells me SE Cyprus has better chance of good weather in Oct

Anyone talking about £5k for a week's holiday for 2 in Cyprus would be expecting a fair degree of luxury. At that price it rather goes without saying.

The flight time from Gatwick to Barbados is 7 hours 53 minutes ... Shorter flights would get you to Egypt or The Gambia.
Plenty of choice.

with things deteriorating re CV-19 around the planet, one week's holiday might soon become 14 days quarantine? I've cancelled 3 breaks already this year and about to pull the plug on Soller mid Sept, so frustrating

Surely the Canaries are still very nice in October.

We used to have very nice weather in Marbella every October for several years. Only once did we get a bad one.

I totally agree. We just changed a trip to Anzio planned for October to next year.
Having just come back from a 5 day break in Italy I won’t be flying anywhere until next year now after my flight experience.
I wonder why the captain instructed us not to use the air nozzles and keep them closed for the duration...?

As for Greece we have gone regularly to the Ionian islands in October. By the end of second week you’ll be very lucky to find any restaurants open.

Barbados. South coast.

Would have said The Gambia 15 years ago.

We wouldn't fly anywhere though at the moment.

It has been raised by ex-frequent flyer wife, but the negatives outweighed the positives.
(and I personally dislike sun bathing)

I was thinking about Ghana. Cheers, will look now.

£5k will get alot of villa, but the property alone maketh not a luxury experience.

My exp that real luxury in Cyprus is starting at about £8k. Chef, driver, housekeeper included

Yes, it seems I can do it for 3.5k all in in Cyprus. The plunge pool is however communal...a long strip that runs along the front of about 10 ground floor rooms. I'm ok with that, I just don't like the daily routine march to the pool, find the best beds etc. A plunge pool virtually next to the bed is what I want with a view of and direct walk to the sea in case I get a bit more adventurous.

Right...Seychelles, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Dubai all starting at 5k for a room with pool or stilted hut on the sea. Flights and food extra. And thats off season.

Imagine if it rained all week. No way.

A touch early for some of the Caribbean, tail end of the hurricane season.

We used to say Often in October, Never in November but it's stretching as the ocean warms up.

Barbados is getting quite commercialised; if you're ok with that and aware of the risk October should be good value.

They'll certainly be glad to see you!
