Any one know where I can order replacement cd playing mechanism
VRDS CMK-4 - KSS-240A.
for Copland CDA 277 or 288 CD player . Happy to order from anywhere and pay postage etc to Australia

If the fault is that the CD tray does not open or close, it is usually a broken gear or gears. They are available from various sellers on ebay. I have a friends Teac vrds here waiting for him to decide whether or not to proceed. Its quite an invoved job to strip down to replace the gears.

If it’s the laser, I ordered a KSS-240A earlier for another forum member’s Arcam, alpha 9 CD player. Most will be pattern parts by now but they’re very inexpensive and I’ve not had a dud yet.

The broken gears is a common problem with the Teac VRDS CD tray. It is not too technical a job to do if you are methodical. Take plenty of pics of what goes where as you take it apart. The gears dont look cheap, but for a player of that quality I guess its more than worth a try. A number of high end American player makers bought in the Teac VRDS CD drive, it was considered to be one of the best at the time.
