License To Kilt...

Big Tabs

looking backwards, going forwards
My wonderful wifelet told me something she had heard on the radio.

When Gladys Knight sang the theme tune for the Bond film 'License To Kill,' she sings "License To Kilt" apparently due to being a fan of Sean Connery, despite it being Timothy Dalton in the film.

By my ears, most of the time Gladys Knight sings 'Kilt,' the backing singers sing 'Kill.'

Now, I am not sure that this is true, but it does sound like Kilt.

In my opinion, the only good thing about the film License To Kill is the theme.

(I confess to being a Bond fan, Connery, Lazenby and Craig being my favs - I do think Clive Owen would have made a good Bond...)

I think rather than making up more Bond stories, they should start again and work through the books in order. Definitely no story-updating though, the films should be true to the time they were written. I would probably want Bond to be harder/more ruthless.
It would be nice to see the new films rated 15+

Celine Dion sang 'my heart will go on dand on (sounds like: my heart will go on dan don)' near the start of her big cinema hit!

It’s always annoyed me. I’d assumed it was just an artefact of the percussion putting a ‘t’ sound on the beat, but it’s more fun to assume it’s deliberate.

I listened a few times (cd) and she definitely says kilt, and with some relish.

I'm a bit of a Bond fan too. I think the Casino Royale reboot was an attempt to get closer to the feel of the books but it would be fun to see a 1950s Bond stirring amphetamines into his champagne and tearing round in a 1930 Bentley :)

Yes. Sounds like a fun day out o_O

No mobile phones, or sat nav. Proper bow ties.

Listen to Gladys singing Kilt, she has a sense of humour.

A period-accurate direct adaptation of one of the original Bond novels would be a fabulous pitch, but I suspect the owners of the Bond franchise have the options on them and they don't look kindly on competition. Michael Winterbottom would be the perfect director and would have no qualms about unleashing the gentleman thug of the novels.

We sat through Dr No the other night. Quite why I have never seen the whole movie I do not know. Wife never seen any of it, even the famous scenes. She thought it was terrible.

I gave it credit for being 1962 - that was a loooongggg time ago now. Rather soft by modern standards and refreshing without computer help. The girls got away more lightly in that film too.

Wonder what a remake would do? Who would do Honey Ryder today?

Dr. No is showing its age, but I still enjoy the film. The hair on the door to check whether anyone has opened it... great stuff.

Ursula Andress never did it for me...

Apart from the James Bond Theme, Dr. No has the weakest soundtrack. (discounting the 1980's efforts)

From memory, because of the filming in Jamaica and resultant excitement (jobs?) created, that explains the frequent 007 references in ska/reggae of the sixties/seventies +

a later example that is a homage (I think)

Dr No's outfit is quite '2020'. Easily replaceable hands a bonus too.
