Metal

Interesting, I see they have a Kraftwerk cover on there too. Not sure it will be my thing but I might give it a listen.

And did I see Imperial Triumphant with a new album recently as well?

I noticed that I recently added Bezwering to my Bandcamp wish list but I've not listened to them yet and I don't know where I found out about them, on here? or AMG? (which I hardly ever read).

Anyway, it's mostly been a mix of Bolt Thrower, Sonic Youth and random punk stuff for me recently.

And stuff with trumpets and saxophone

Bezwering has been discussed here on PFM-MM, BMB has it in his collection.

I for one will avoid Imperial Triumphant :eek:

Recently Hail Spirit Noir is a wondrous release, these guys have created a work that stands alone, another shift away from BM but retaining their unique character, on the first spin you think "what the..." but then turns epic.
Other spins are the Icelandic They Leapt from Burning Buildings, Italys Fordomth and the brilliant Dearth from Oakland (recorded and produced by Greg Wilkinson).
@Blackmetalboon has recently been buying some interesting stuff as well...a new one by Dauþuz (a fav of ours) is a biggy.

I haven’t listened to Bezwering recently, their album was on a playlist I was listening to at work but my iPod’s battery died before it came on. I’ll try again on Monday.

@egodissolve I’ve not checked out Hail Spirit Noir yet, you should avoid looking at the AMG review :D

2020 is finally picking up pace. Some really good recent albums from Valdrin, Naxen, The Committee and Dekira. Also stumbled across Loudriver Records label https://loudriver.bandcamp.com/music they only have a few releases but they’re great for winding down at the end of the day.

AMG have just reviewed The Moon and the Night Spirit, https://the-moon-and-the-nightspirit.bandcamp.com/album/aether I can feel a customary Neofolk binge coming on. You’ve been warned!

You know my thoughts on AMG BMB :)!

@Blackmetalboon
I just visited the AMG website for the first time in in a long time to read the Hail Spirit Noir review and its nonsense J, nothing changes at AMG.
As always, instead of taking it on its own merit the reviewer always feels the need to compare work to previous releases. I disagreed with most of what the guy wrote! It's opinions at the end of the day, I hope a review does not influence personal judgement without first listening to it.

One you might like btw:

Edit:
Also I notice the continuous trend on AMG where a guy disagrees and moderators vigorously protect the review to the point discrediting the poster.

Napalm's Harmony Corruption is 30 years old apparently. I didn't get this until a few years after its release but it's one of my favourites, I think I actually prefer this to the earlier grindcore oriented stuff. You might recognise guest vocalist John Tardy and I've just found out Glen Benton was on there too (I never knew! how embarrassing). Anyone else remember the awesome-fit-enducing video for Suffer The Children (made a welcome change from the bloody Pearl Jam and Black Crowes videos)

@egodissolve I use AMG purely for seeing if there is anything new that I have missed, generally I don’t take much notice of review scores, just what genre and if the contain name checks to other bands I may like.
I have found that recommendations in the comments section on AMG has led me to look bands and albums that possibly would have passed me by.

I saw this the other day. It was slightly before my time (I started with Utopia Banished) but was still fun to listen back to it. I noticed Tardy but not Benton too, will have to have another listen!

Mad to think that they’ve been going so long, the whole band changed, yet IMO the form of their career has been their more recent period.

3 great releases last week for me personally, they took a while then all turned up at once! Surprisingly, considering the recent events there is some great metal out there at the moment guys. Even noticed Draconian have a new one in the pipeline!

I do like some of the quirkiness with Antiq releases and enjoyed the preview tracks of this but the back end of the album was absolutely slated in an AMG review. It’s released tomorrow so hopefully I can check out the rest of the album before committing.

One of my favourite Antiq releases this year has been Cataèdes - Les Affæmmées - Contes d'Outre-Amante;

The opening 18 minute, french spoken word track is mesmerising.

Posting this has encouraged me to root through their catalogue, this could get expensive!

@Blackmetalboon,
How did you get on with the Hail Spirit Noir?
I also noticed you also picked up Verlies. I was initially drawn to the wonderful artwork and the music didn’t disappoint either, a bit of a dark horse I must say, I keep returning to it and it gets better and better. I don’t know how I missed it in March but I am certainly pleased it found me.

I’ve only played HSN once so far, initial impressions are positive. Not listened to Verlies in its entirety yet.

First play of Skeleton’s self titled debut album. https://20buckspin.bandcamp.com/album/skeleton
First impressions; the preview track (Catacombs) stands out as the best track of the album and is also by far the longest. At this point in time I’m not sure if the short run time is excellent production or lack of ideas, sometimes lack of “padding” is a good choice.
But the album conjures up a nostalgic feeling of classic heavy metal, similar to the way Darkthrone and Kveletak do, but without sounding like them. And it’s full of decent riffs! Short ‘n’ Sweet, Black ‘n’ Roll.

You’re not allowed back until you love it!:D

The new UADA track is different, slightly mellow, but definitely a UADA song. Any idea when the album drops?

Some of your recent buys have been interesting. Out of those I picked up Brzask, Ritual Clearing, Gravenchalice and Valravne. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a future album from Brzask as the EP is very good.
The UADA is due September 25th.
