Platform Ladder for staircase - Recommendations

Brian

Eating fat, staying slim
As part of the house decorating project I've embarked upon, I'm interested in a platform ladder that will allow me to reach a height of 4.8m on stairs with a half-landing.

I've been looking in the usual places such as B&Q, Youtube etc, but can anyone with experience of these things recommend one?

Not sure, Vinny. I need to set one side ( ladder ) on the bottom step with the other ladder on the half landing with a platform between the two so I can get to the top of the wall.

I’ll check it further but I can’t see if it does that.

Thanks anyway for the suggestion. Appreciated.

Can’t offer any suggestions, but good luck. I’ve been decorating my house throughout and that is the one bit I gave to a pro. He charged me £100 to cover the bits I couldn’t, which I was happy to give him. Especially after factoring in the cost of a ladder/scaffolding and having to store it somewhere afterwards.

What did you get done for £100? Decorators around here wouldn’t do half a day for that!

Three sections of ceiling in between beams and three walls. The stairwell, basically. Two coats. It took him five to six hours. I supplied the paint, but yes, I agree it was a good price.

Hi Brian.

Either go for a professional combination ladder like this;

https://www.wernerco.com/eu/combination-ladders/725Series/7252918
https://www.wickes.co.uk/Werner-ExtensionPLUS-X4-6-86m-Aluminium-Combination-Ladder/p/193903

Or build a bespoke platform with CLS timber and structural 18mm ply - hinged along the centre line to enable access up and down the stairs (for the necessary access - cuppa etc.)
The platform may be a safer option esp. if you already have a reasonable quality set of steps and effectively reduce your working height by half.

PM me if you want guidance on the platform idea.

Regards
Dave.

I got round this problem with rollers and brushes on long poles. The first time I did it I was surprised how easy it was to get a good finish, though it will depend on ceiling heights, landing configuration, your reach and how steady your hand is.

Thanks Dave. I will PM you tomorrow, though I’m starting to lean toward paying someone if I can get someone under the current circumstances.

We used something like this to hold a regular ladder when doing the top of the wall and ceiling on the stairs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5G2UGX/?tag=pinkfishmedia-20
Interesting. Thanks for that, I’ll check into it further.

I plan to use wallpaper. I need to get up high and up close.
