Naim pricing in the 80’s?

I’ve searched the web but have not come across much info on this minor of curiosities... what were the Naim retail prices of the 1980’s? And we’re they substantial differences in the US vs UK? (Other than the obvious currency conversions).

Was it as relatively expensive as it is today?

I remember that a snaps cost £172 and think a 42 was £200 a 32 was £340 a 160 was £400 a 110 was £250 and a 250 was about £580.

I seem to remember a hicap was about £350 when introduced and 135s were double the price of a 250.

So looking at current Ebay sales prices, there is virtually no change in the amount paid now for those very same items.

Not sure how that translates with the value of new stuff though.

I've found a 1986 price list. Includes 15% VAT.

e.g.
NAP140 £339.05
NAP250 £891.25
NAP135 £891.25

HICAP £356.50
SNAPS £197.80

NAC32-5 £393.20

NACA4 £1.73/m

I bought a Myst TMA3 instead of a Nait in 1987. It cost me £288 I think, the same price as the Kans I also bought. I seem to recall the cost of the Nait was a touch more than the Myst.

Sounds about right. I paid app. £450 for my 42/110 in 1984. IIRC the Nait 1 was £184 at the time.

Looking at the 1986 prices and using an inflation calculator makes the NAP 250 £2700 today. The NAP 200 was £2000 in 2016, so a 250 a couple of years later would probably be £2.5-3k. On that basis I'd say they were the same.

however prices in general have come down. I remember buying a student system in 1986, Wharfey Diamonds were £70, a Pioneer integrated £100. RPI has risen 3 fold since then, would you give £300 for an entry level Pioneer today, or £200 for diamonds? Not me.
