Strange monitor problem: doesn't like being off for more than a couple of days

My Samsung display is dying. Most of the time it works perfectly. I can turn it off at night and on in the morning and it is fine. However if I am away for a week, then on my return the screen stays black. The power light illuminates and the connected PC thinks it is on, but it is dark. If you cycle the power, the screen flashes briefly than stays dark. Eventually after trying a few time, leaving it for a while, trying again, it comes back to life. Then it works fine again for weeks until left off for a while again.

I am wondering if the power supply is failing?

I haven't a clue but I'd first Google the model number to see if there are any known faults for that particular set. Then I'd remove the back panel and check for bulging capacitors.

Had this with a Samsung TV, the Samwha capacitors in the power supply had leaked, replaced with equivalent Panasonic caps and has worked fine ever since.
