IPhone 11

Not long ago. My iPhone 6S noticed it yesterday, nothing for my iPad Air 2 though, I guess this is the split point when iPads get iPadOS (out fairly soon IIRC).

ipad OS on the 30th of this month, together with iOS 13.1 for the iPhone.

My iPad Pro has 13, has had for at least a couple of weeks, ie since I got it.
Is this something I have to get all Appley excited about, now I have an iThing? Because it is just a thing that just happens with not very much fanfare or bother on my Android stuff.

Oh, and btw the lack of simple functionality, like easy image searching and Bluetooth sharing of images between devices, is not something I would expect from something that costs 50% more than the equivalent Android product.

I think you’ll find it doesn’t happen with Android! Certainly the stats for folk running the current version are beyond pathetic with huge numbers running very old un-patched and compromised OS due to either being orphaned by the hardware manufacturer or simply not being offered updates. This is one area where Apple genuinely slay the competition, their current version installed base is always exceptionally high and they usually have a six year or more hardware compatibility window.

ahem, you arent comparing (sorry) Apples with Apples, you are comparing Apples with Onions! Apple on one hand, is a controlled and closed infrastructure with users content with a lack innovation, compared to a relatively open and tailor able, flexible infrastructure.

Apple also abandon their users though upgrades

Steady on there Gintonic, apple are regarded as one of the best if not the best in providing the longest term support for their software.

Rob998 sharing of images is dead easy on ipad with airdrop, but not to those nasty old android devices. However there is literally a tonne of sharing options probably the only one is not bluetooth. When I had an Samsung note 9, I did not see that option either, no doubt it was their buried somewhere in a million options.

Still getting used to it so I will no doubt find a work around.

I would like an equivalent of Google Image Search though, I really do find that useful.

Ah, wondered if my Air 2 was too old for 13. Hopefully this is good news.

I still take ribbing for never having owned a smartphone ... every time I take out my flip phone. I don't want to waste even more time than I do already with a computer. I own a tablet, a 2nd gen ipad, though I only use it for porn and reading news. It's a content consuming only device because I find typing and data management on it a pain in the ass.

Do you really need a new smartphone?

tuga.

what would be nice is if the young climate change activist movement embraced some urgently-needed economic ideas and made rejection of consumerism one of their core messages. they should start targeting specific companies, like apple and mcdonnlds, urging people to stay away from them. at the same time, it would be nice to set up a non-profit venture that would re-furbish older phone and perhaps make new, upgradable ones.

My iPad Pro is stuck on 12.4.1 but says it’s up to date??!!

That’s because iOS for the iPad hasn’t been released yet. Apple announced earlier this year that they were separating iOS for iPad from the iPhone version. As I said earlier iOS 13 for iPad is due on the 30th of this month.
