Richer Sounds: the UK's joint favourite retailer

mattgbell

Help the elderly and unwell!
According to a Which? poll, Richer Sounds was the joint favourite retailer in the UK (i.e. the joint most likely to be recommended by shoppers to their friends).

This from the Grauniad:

"The hi-fi and TV specialist was founded by influential business guru Julian Richer, who has promised to hand his business to his employees through a trust model similar to that of John Lewis when he dies. It has 53 stores and made an operating profit of £9m on sales of £186m last year. It donates 15% of its profits to charity while shopfloor staff enjoy John Lewis-style perks such as subsidised holiday homes in the UK and European cities Paris and Venice."

(I have no connection whatsoever with Richer Sounds.)

Same...bought my Denon mini system from them...great staff, cheerful, helpful. Great prices. No High end Kit, but none the worse for it.

They've really come on over the years. I use them for TVs and Sonos bits, always pleased with the service.

Listened to a really nice Cambridge audio amp in there recently, a CX80.

Living up here in the Highlands, it is wonderfully refreshing that they deliver free rather than all the other companies who won't even deliver up here at any price. :)

We buy our TV's there and the staff always come across as honest enthusiasts.
Didn't know about the Trust and 15% to charity.
Bravo Mr. Richer.

Agree a good company. Although of course written by the company I think this is a good summary of their ethos and I have no reason to doubt any of it.

Unlikely to buy much Hifi from them apart from maybe headphones, but I have and will continue to use them for TVs. They were very good when a Panasonic LCD TV just wasn't to our tastes when got home swapping without any problems.

Another fan here even though I have only bought a few things from them over the years. Their staff are helpful and often very well informed.

I like the thought of another John Lewis style setup in the future; well done Julian.

I am a big fan. Such friendly people and they know their stuff. Best part? They are not pretentious at all; decent gear at good prices, sold with a smile. I have never felt pressured or rushed by the sales staff. Another 10 out of 10 from me.

They are a pretty remarkable company, nothing bad to say about them here.

Nor have I .
When I asked them for a Yamaha cassette deck, they said they'd try and get it to the shop before my friend's Birthday.

They couldn't, but let me have the higher spec. Yamaha they had in stock,
and let me have it for the price of the model I had asked for.

Oh, and I won a £20 Richer Sounds voucher.

Good visit, that was.

Many a purchase, recently a Roksan amp - always good service. The extended warranty is ace, and they refund it after 5 years if unused.

I brought a Naim Mu-so from there a couple of years back, already in the clearance section and too good a deal o miss. When I came to pay, they took another 10% off for being a VIP member. I hadn't asked and wasn't aware that they were doing it, they just did it. It was a massive bargain and is used daily in my parents conservatory.

Are you sure you don't mean the Naim Mu-so ?

Yep, you're right, don't know what I was thinking there. I brought a turquoise grille to match the decor too. It was essentially brand new, just open box. I suspect someone had brought it and then changed their mind.
