    New Linn DS

Oh I wish. 1. I find software updates slow computers and phones down, and newer machines go much faster. My 5 year MacBook Pro drive started to die a few months ago and so I had to buy a new computer. My LP12 is 20 years old this year. 2. No one in Linn thinks the LP12 is the great...

    Best CD player ever?

Another vote for the Linn Sondek CD12. Just breathtaking to listen to and look at. Plus the CD tray was part of the user interface, as touching it did 5 things (open, close, play, stop, next).

    Linn Axis / Akito or stock pre-Circus LP12 / Valhalla / Ittok?

Axis to LP12 - the biggest upgrade I've done.

Linn website : DS was only the beginning?

I heard a standard Exakt system at the Melbourne show complete trash a 4 box dCS Vivaldi into pre-monoblock with Wilson Audio speakers. Mileage may vary, ya-da-ya-da-ya-da. For me the weakest-link is in the Akurate calibre amps. Very good, but prefer with Twins or Solos, and passive if need be...

Linn website : DS was only the beginning?

    >Que? I thought "The source is in the speaker"? The DS digital source is in the speaker, in the active crossover, to be accurate. >I've already covered this in my post - for those people offer a preamp with a digital/network/Exakt link output; however I cannot imagine that the average...

Linn website : DS was only the beginning?

Several reasons: * 2 speakers, 1 source * inputs for other sources, turntable for example, want interconnect to be reasonably short and why tie sources to being near a speaker * source has display * also allows for having Exakt active crossover boxes so one can have external power amps

Linn Akito MkI(1/b), II(2/b) or III?

Originally made in Japan, manufacture moved to Scotland in 94, sounded lots better (so a dealer told me) so the price was put up by about 50%. Like lots of Linn Products (especially those that have been made for a long time, 25 years!) it has been through lots of refinements.

    Akurate DS vs. ND5XS/XP5XS

One big factor is do you generally prefer Linn or Naim presentation. Box count factor favours Linn naturally. I also quite like Linn UI, and the are several 3rd party options too.

    LP12 Experts

As well as all the parts with sexy names, also important is the calibre of the internal parts, is the plinth corner braced etc. You have to make up your mind, some prefer original bearing, some prefer Cirkus, some prefer original baseboard, some prefer the natural syncopation of a Trampolin...

ADVICE PLEASE BEFORE 1,000 CD RIP.

Ditto to Sam Cat's advice, rip a dozen or so CDs, live with those files for a while and evaluate if you want to do the rest the same way. Perhaps try ripping that dozen with a few different rippers, thus become your own mini expert before doing the rest, JUST ONCE AND THE WAY YOU WANT. Rip...
